Andy Fletcher アンディ・フレッチャーこと本名 Andrew John Leonard Fletcher アンドリュー・ジョン・レオナード・フレッチャー （1961年7月8日 – 2022年5月26日）は、イングランド、ノッティンガム出身のミュージシャン・キーボード・プレイヤーであり、Depeche Modeの創立メンバーの一人。ニックネームは、 Fletch フレッチ 。
Joy と John Fletcher の両親の元で4人兄弟の長男としてノッティンガムで生まれ育つ。Andyが2歳の時に、エンジニアである父親がタバコ工場での仕事を提供され、バジルドンに家族で移住。彼は幼い頃から地元の少年団で主にサッカーで活躍した。

パンクが音楽シーンに登場した1976年に15歳だったAndyは、これは「明らかにそれを体験するのに最適な時代でした…私たちは人生で非常に幸運でした」とのちに語っている。
スージー・アンド・バンシーズ、ザ・キュアー、クラフトワーク、初期のヒューマン・リーグ、初期のオーケストラル・マヌーバーズ・イン・ザ・ダーク（OMD）などのバンドの影響を受けたAndyは、1970年代後半に学生時代の友人Vince Clark とともにNo Romance in Chinaというバンドを結成。ベースギターを担当。
1980年Martin Gore と出会い、3人組としてComposition of Soundを新しく結成。チープソングライターとして活動し、Vocalが決まるまでAndyがヴォーカルを担当。同年暮れ、Dave Gahan が加入しDepeche Mode を結成、デビューし活躍したのは皆さんご存知でしょう。((バンドについては過去記事を参照。例えばこちらなど→Depeche Mode / Personal Jesus 和訳 Close Touch 密なる関係)
Vince Clarkは、このデビューアルバムSpeak＆Spellのリリース直後の1981年後半にグループを去った。そのため1982年のフォローアップアルバム『A Broken Frame』は、トリオとして録音され、Martin Goreが、メインで作詞作曲の任務を引き継ぐ。

1982年後半、ミュージシャン兼プロデューサーのAlan Wilder がバンドに参加し、1995年にAlanが脱退する迄、カルテットとして活動。それ以来、Dave Gahan、Martin Gore、Andy Fletcherのコアトリオは、2017年のアルバムSpiritのリリースとそれに続くワールドツアーまで、アクティブに世界的に大活躍した。
Depeche ModeにおけるAndy Fletcher の役割は、世間の注目になることがあったが、初期では、彼は（エレクトリックとその後のシンセ）ベースをプレイしている。1981年にVince Clark が去った後には、バンドが進化するにつれて、バンドのメンバーのそれぞれが自分に合ったエリアに行き、バンドに集合的に利益をもたらしたため、Andy の役割も変化した。 D.A. Pennebaker の1989年のドキュメンタリー映画で、Andy はこれらの役割を明確にしている。 バンドのローリングストーンライター、Gabin Edwards は、Andy Fletcherの声明を公開。「彼らとAndy は写真撮影のために現れ、小切手を現金化するのだ」だがAndyは、作詞作曲のクレジットを受け取らなかったバンドの唯一のメンバーでもある。

後年、これにはバンドのスポークスマンとしても活躍し、先程も書いたが、彼がDepeche Mode のニュース（レコードアルバムやツアーの詳細など）を発表したり、タイブレーカーとして「バンドをまとめる」役割もしていた。インタビューで、DaveとMartin の間に妥協点を築き、2001年のアルバム『Exciter』とデペッシュモード内での将来の作詞作曲の任務についてのツアーに続いて、彼らの深刻な論争を解決した。

スタジオやライブショーでは、Andyは、ベースパート、ストリングス、ドローンサウンド、さまざまなサンプルなど、さまざまなサポートシンセサイザーパートを提供。Andyは、あまり歌わなかったデペッシュモードの唯一のメンバー。そして「世界的に有名な一本指奏者」と自称しており、主にキーボードとプロデュースを担当。
Fletchは自他共に認めるMartin の最大の理解者。Martin の機嫌をとり、またやる気を出させるのがFletchの最大の役目である。また、バンドにはとりあえずマネージャーはいるが、実質的にバンドのマネージングを行っているのはFletch であったと言われていた。バンドを支えて正常に動くようにしていたのはFletchだったようだ。
Toast Hawaii
2002年Toast Hawaii というレコードレーベル設立、シンセポップ・デュオCLIEИT クライアントをデビューさせ、自らプロデュースも担当。(だが2006年にレーベル移籍し、その後Toast Hawaii からのリリースは無い)。
Fletchは、CLIEИT のツアーサポートとして始めたDJの活動も。Depeche Mode のツアー後のオフでやったり、ヨーロッパやアジア、南アメリカなど、DepecheModeがまだ来ていない、または行けなくなっている地域などでギグを行ったりフェスティバルに参加した。(1990年以来Depeche Modeとして来日が実現していない日本でも、2011年サマーソニックに参加。東京公演は8月13日ソニックマニア、8月14日はサマーソニック大阪会場でプレイ)
2022年5月26日、60歳で死去。数多くのバンドやアーティスト達がメッセージを寄せていた。
彼の仲間のバンドメイトであるDave とMartin は、「親愛なる友人、家族、バンドメイトのアンディ・フレッチャー・フレッチャーが早すぎる死を迎えたことにショックを受け、圧倒的な悲しみに満ちている」と述べた。元Depeche Mode メンバーであるAlan Wilder は、フレッチャーの死を知ることは「真の青からのボルト」であると述べた。
[ニュー・オーダー、ザ・キラーズ、ペット・ショップ・ボーイズ、アリソン・モエ、スマッシング・パンプキンズ、オーケストラル・マヌーバーズ・イン・ザ・ダークは、フレッチャーに敬意を表した多くの人々の中にいました。 トーリ・エイモスはまた、ミシガン劇場での5月26日のショーで、【Enjoy The Silence】のカバーを演奏することでフレッチャーに敬意を表した。
曲について
【Just Ca n’t Get Enough】は Depeche Modeの3番目のシングルであり、「Speak＆Spell」の11曲目。シングルは英国で8位、当時最高のチャートを記録したシングルになった。 B面は【AnySecondNow】。この曲には 12インチがあり、そこでは Schizo Mix バージョンがある。これは、1981年11月にリリースされた直後、バンドを去ったバンドリーダーのVinceClarkeによって書かれた最後のシングル。
人気が高く認知度も高いために、この様な大合唱も起きる〜。サッカーの試合会場での一コマ。
大合唱がたまらない。こうなるから試合は現地で見るべき(笑)。SchizoMixは、シンセパーツを追加してトラックに不吉な雰囲気を加えた拡張バージョンだ。
このバージョンは、米国版のSpeak＆Spell、英国でのSpeak＆Spellの再リリース、The Singles81→85およびRemixes81–04の再リリースされている。
因みにシングルのB面の【AnySecond Now】は、最初の市販のDepecheModeインストゥルメンタルだった。これは、Speak＆Spellの英国での再リリースにも収録されている。
ボーカル（マーティン・ゴアが最初に扱ったデペッシュ・モードのボーカル）を含むバージョンが「Any Second Now（Voices）」としてアルバムに登場。拡張バージョンの「Altered」Mixもある。アメリカではB面は【tora! Tosa! Tora!】。アルバムでは前作「Photographic」とクロスフェードしているが、シングルではイントロが綺麗である。
歌詞について
歌詞はラブリーな感じで、今現在、世界的なGothの教祖(笑)的な存在のDepeche Modeとはかけ離れた感じ。
でもいつものLyraの深読み解説ですれば、「我慢できないくらい君に夢中」とサビで何回も言っているのは、ドラッグやアルコールに対して発してる叫びとも取れなくもない。その手の歌詞は、よくあるダーティー系R&Rの常套句だしありがちだ。
ただ、まだ若い頃のDepeche Modeであり、デビューしたばかりの彼らと言うことや、アルバムタイトルを考慮すると、彼らは、真実の自分はチラ見せくらいにして、本質は隠していた気がするから、大っぴらに、バッチリとドラッグを意味しているとは言い難い。
何故なら、アルバムタイトルの『Speak & Spell』は、小さい子の知育玩具の名前でもあるから、、、Lyraには彼らは狙って故意にカワイ子ちゃんとなり、ウブな歌詞、ウブなタイトルにしたと睨んでおります。はははは。

実は、この曲【Just Cant’ Get Enough】にも狙ってる箇所があって、”Slip ‘n’Slide”も、アメリカに昔からある夏に庭で遊ぶ遊具” Slip ‘n’ Slideというのがあるからだ。ビニールのシートで出来たプールみたいなやつで、ホースで水を通すと先端の小さな穴から水が出てきて滑りやすくなり、その上を滑って遊ぶものなんです、見たことあるんじゃないでしょうか？
これな。MVもレザー着たり、本質をチラ見せはしているけど、まだこの時期は抑制して、玩具 Toy絡みの歌詞を書いたのでは？玩具って言っても色々ありますし、ね？
「君に夢中」としつこいくらいに繰り返すあたりからして、歌詞の主人公が愛してる相手は、天使なのです。天使と言えば、優雅で美しい人物として知られている。
この男性は、彼の恋人を天使として説明して行き、彼女みたいな人が、彼に愛を与えることができて彼は非常に幸運であると語っている。
彼が「まだまだ充分じゃない、足りないよ」と言うのは、これは彼の恋人について好きなこと、そして彼女も彼を愛しているという事実を示唆している。二人とも愛し合うことをしていると言うこと。
歌の最後の方で「暑くなってきて、燃えるような愛」は、そういうエロい意味もあるので、そう言う感じに和訳してみたした。主人公が、恋人との関係が永遠に続くかどうか確信が持てないから、色々と歌っているのだ。
主人公が、恋人が自分を愛してくれる方法を愛していると言って、曲が終わることはより理に叶っているわけ。
情熱的に愛してる、それを可愛らしくPopに歌う。

The single version of “Just Can’t Get Enough” is the same version that appears on the UK version of Speak & Spell. The 12-inch single featured a “Schizo Mix”, which is an extended version with additional synth parts adding a sinister feel to the track. This version appears on the US version of Speak & Spell, the UK re-release of Speak & Spell, the re-release of The Singles 81→85 and Remixes 81–04.
In addition, the single’s B-side, “Any Second Now”, was the first commercially available Depeche Mode instrumental. It is included on the UK re-release of Speak & Spell. A version including vocals (the first Depeche Mode vocals to be handled by Martin Gore) appeared on the album as “Any Second Now (Voices)”. There is also an extended version, the “Altered” Mix. In the United States, the B-side is “Tora! Tora! Tora!”. On the album, “Tora! Tora! Tora!” is crossfaded with the previous track, “Photographic”, but on the single, the introduction is clean.
The single reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart and number 26 on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart, making it their highest-charting single at the time on both counts. It also became the band’s first (and biggest) hit in Australia, reaching number 4. The B-side is “Any Second Now”.
The “Just Can’t Get Enough” video, directed by Clive Richardson, was the band’s first, and is the only video by the band which includes Vince Clarke.
The exterior scenes in the video are filmed at The Southbank Centre that is, the undercroft and a now demolished stairway at the eastern corner of the Royal Festival Hall. There is a Schizo Mix-Version of the track.

It was the last single written by band leader Vince Clarke, who left the band soon after the song’s release in November 1981.
The popular saying is that love works like a drug, especially cocaine.
Therefore, he is completely addicted to his new girlfriend, and he knows that he can’t be fully satisfied with it.
Angels are known to be graceful and beautiful figures. The singer describes his lover as an angel, and also states that he is very lucky to have someone like her give her love to him. Since this is the final time he says “I just can’t seem to get enough”, this could suggest that this is the singer’s favourite thing about his lover—the fact the she loves him.
The reason that “It’s getting hotter, it’s a burning love” isn’t here as the last lines of the song is because the singer isn’t certain that his relationship with his lover will last forever. It makes more sense that he ends with these lines, saying that he loves the way his lover loves him
Andy Fletcher
Their 1982 follow-up album, A Broken Frame, was recorded as a trio, with Gore taking over primary songwriting duties. Musician and producer Alan Wilder joined the band in late 1982 and the group continued as a quartet until Wilder’s departure in 1995. From then on, the core trio of Gahan, Gore, and Fletcher remained active, up to the release of their 2017 album Spirit and ensuing world tour.
Fletcher’s role within Depeche Mode was often a topic of speculation. In early incarnations of the band, he played (electric and later synth) bass. As the band evolved after Vince Clarke’s departure in 1981, Fletcher’s role changed as each of the band members took to the areas that suited them and benefited the band collectively. In a key scene in D.A. Pennebaker’s 1989 documentary film about the band, Fletcher clarified these roles: “Martin’s the songwriter, Alan’s the good musician, Dave’s the vocalist, and I bum around.” In his review of 2005’s Playing the Angel, long after Wilder’s departure from the band, Rolling Stone writer Gavin Edwards riffed upon Fletcher’s statement with the opening line: “Depeche Mode’s unique division of labor has been long established, with each of the three remaining members having a distinct role: Martin Gore writes the songs, Dave Gahan sings them and Andy Fletcher shows up for photo shoots and cashes the checks.” Fletcher was the only member of the band who did not receive a songwriting credit.
With the band having not always employed a full-time manager, Fletcher handled many of the band’s business, legal, and other non-musical interests over the years. In the press kit for Songs of Faith and Devotion, he discussed being genuinely interested in many of the business aspects of the music industry that other performing musicians shy away from, and as such, he took over a lot of the business management aspects of the band. In later years, this included acting as the band’s “spokesperson”, with Fletcher often being the one to announce Depeche Mode news (such as record album and tour details).
He was also said to be the member who was “the tiebreaker” and the one that “brings the band together”. According to interviews, Fletcher built the compromise between Gahan and Gore that settled their serious dispute following 2001’s Exciter album and tour over future songwriting duties within Depeche Mode.
In the studio and during live shows, Fletcher contributed a variety of supporting synthesizer parts, including bass parts, strings, and drone sounds, and various samples. Fletcher was the only member of Depeche Mode who did not often sing.
Fletcher died on 26 May 2022, aged 60. His fellow bandmates Gahan and Gore stated “we are shocked and filled with overwhelming sadness with the untimely passing of our dear friend, family member and bandmate Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher”. Former Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder stated that learning of Fletcher’s death was “a real bolt from the blue”.
New Order, The Killers, Pet Shop Boys, Alison Moyet, the Smashing Pumpkins and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark were among many who paid tribute to Fletcher. Tori Amos also paid tribute to Fletcher by playing her cover of “Enjoy the Silence” during her 26 May show at the Michigan Theater.
