"Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" is a song by the punk rock group the Ramones. Written by Joey Ramone, it is one of the Ramones' most popular songs, evidence of Joey's early 1960s surf rock and bubblegum pop influences. It first appeared in May 1977 as a single in the UK where it charted at #22. In the USA, it was released as a single in July 1977, and reached #81, and appeared on copies of the second issue of the band's 1977 album Leave Home(replacing the track "Carbona Not Glue"). The track, as well as its B-side "I Don't Care", was remixed and re-released for their third LP Rocket to Russia.

[Pre-Chorus]
Well, the kids are all hopped up and ready to go
They're ready to go now
They got their surfboards and they're going to the discotheque a-go-go
But she just couldn't stay, she had to break away
Well New York City really has it all oh yeah, oh yeah

[Chorus]
Sheena is a punk rocker
Sheena is a punk rocker
Sheena is a punk rocker now
Sheena is a punk rocker

Sir Records

Rolling Stoneでもthe Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll にいれらている、皆に愛されている曲なのだ。

【Sheena is a Punk Rocker】のSheena は、実際にある『Sheena, Queen of the Jungle』と言うアメリカン・コミックスのキャラクターである Sheenaから取られたものだ。

Joey

Joey

Thanks for giving us beautiful songs,Joey! I'll be able to live tomorrow with your songs!

One of the Ramones' most beloved songs “Sheena Is a Punk Rocker” has been covered several times by other bands and featured in the Ramones' live set for over a decade.

The song is notable for being one of the first to explicitly refer to "punk rock" in its title and lyrics in terms of a subculture. The song was ranked at No. 5 among the top "Tracks of the Year" for 1977 by NME: it is ranked #461 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Timeand is included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. The "Sheena" referred to in the title is in fact the comic book character Sheena, Queen of the Jungle; the idea being that punk rock music would appeal to a savage jungle girl brought to civilization. Joey Ramone said of the track, "To me 'Sheena' was the first surf/punk rock teenage rebellion song. I combined Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, with the primalness of punk rock. Then Sheena is brought into the modern day."

Leave Home is the second studio album by the Ramones. It was released on January 10, 1977, through Sire Records, with the expanded CD being released through Rhino Entertainment on June 19, 2001. Songs on the album were written immediately after the band's first album's writing process, which demonstrated the band's progression. The album had a higher production value than their debut Ramones and featured faster tempos. The front photo was taken by Moshe Brakha and the back cover, which would become the band's logo, was designed by Arturo Vega. The album spawned three singles, but only one succeeded in charting. It was also promoted with several tour dates in the United States and Europe.

Sheena, Queen of the Jungle is a fictional American comic book jungle girl heroine, originally published primarily by Fiction House during the Golden Age of Comic Books. She was the first female comic book character with her own title, with her 1937 (in Great Britain; 1938 in the United States) premiere preceding Wonder Woman #1 (cover-dated Dec. 1941). Sheena inspired a wealth of similar comic book jungle queens. She was predated in literature by Rima, the Jungle Girl, introduced in the 1904 William Henry Hudson novel Green Mansions.
