【Stranger Things】で推しの1人がRobin。だってこのMaya Hawkeが出て来た時の、アイスクリーム店員姿に一目惚れしたの〜。

可愛いしユニセックスな雰囲気が魅力的。ハスキーな低い声がセクシーで何より美しい。

でもめっちゃドジっ子で天然ぶちかましてるから、ダメキャラかと思いきや、頭の回転が速く、人の気持ちに寄り添える優しい女子でギャップ萌えするわ。

良く考えたらStranger Thingsは、ずーっと推しが、女性キャラだった。シーズン4になってやーと、Eddie が出て来た(が、アレだもんね〜)し、Vecnaが好きな俳優が演じてて一番好きなキャラだから、このシーズン4は「好き」が沢山いて、たまらんね。

Thérèse とは？

Thérès　テレーズは、2022年9月23日にリリース予定のMaya Hawkeの 2nd アルバム『Moss モス』の1st シングルとしてリリースされた新曲です。

Maya は、TVシリーズ【Stranger Things ストレンジャーシングス】でのRobin役で話題になっているけど、数年前からアルバムリリースをしたり、シングルも出したりと音楽活動もしているのだ。彼女の新曲には独特の歌詞と意味があり、詳細な説明が必要かもしれない。ユーモアでユニークなものが多いな、と思うし、万人には分かりづらい感性の持ち主なのだ。きっとこの【Thérèse】も分かりづらいだろう。Lyraが解説するので、お役に立てれば幸いです〜。

Thérèse Dreamingとは？

 

『Thérèse Dreaming 夢見るテレーズ』とは、フランス語: Thérèse rêvant、英語 Thérèse Dreaming）は、ポーランド系フランス人Balthus　バルテュス（バルタザール・ミシェル・クロソウスキー・ド・ローラ）が描いた1938年の絵画である。

ニューヨークのメトロポリタン美術館の所蔵品の一つであり、その挑発的な主題と芸術的価値の高さは、メディア、美術史家、心理学者、文化学者の関心を繰り返し集めている。

 

この絵がその『Thérèse Dreaming』だ。↓↓

 

1936年、バルテュスは、隣に住む11歳の少女 Thérèse Blanchard テレーズ・ブランシャールと知り合った。その後の3年間に、バルテュスは彼女をモデルにして多くの絵を描いて行く。

これらの作品は、少女の思索めいた表情などが正しく描写されている。その中の2枚で、テレーズは片足を上げて、白い下着を見せる同じポーズで描かれている。

この作品が1937年の『猫と少女』と、1938年の『夢見るテレーズ』である。

因みにThérèse Blanchard　テレーズ・ブランシャール（1925年パリ? – 1950年パリ）は、1935年から1939年にかけて、ポーランド系フランス人の画家バルテュス（本名バルタザール・クロソウスキー・ド・ローラ）が描いた10枚以上の絵画のモデルとなっている。

バルテュスがテレーズを描いた絵画の内の一枚『少女と猫』は、ウラジーミル・ナボコフの小説『ロリータ』の表紙を飾ったなど、ロリータ好みの絵画を書く画家と思う。

Maya Hawkeとは？

Mayaのことをご存知ない方のため、彼女を紹介しましょう。1998年7月8日にニューヨーク市で生まれ、2人子供の年長者の方である。弟がいるわけだ。

彼女の両親は映画『Gataka』（1997）のセットで出会い、1998年5月に結婚、2005年に離婚したのは有名な話。彼女にはまた、父親の2番目の妻であるライアン・ショーヒューズの2人の異母姉妹もいる。

Mayaの母親の元婚約者である金融家のアーパッド・ブッソンにも別の異母姉妹がいるし、結構複雑な環境で暮らした様だ。

彼女の父親サイドには、劇作家テネシー・ウィリアムズの遠い従兄弟になる。母親サイドでは、仏教学者のロバート・サーマンの孫娘であり、モデルの男爵夫人ネナ・フォン・シュレブリュッゲもいる、Schlebrüggeの母親であるBirgitHolmquistもモデルであり、現在スウェーデンのSmygehukにあるAxelEbbeの彫像Famntagetのポーズをとっている。

Maya は失読症を患っており、初等教育中に頻繁に転校した後、ニューヨークのブルックリンにある私立学校であるセントアンズスクールに入学。この学校は芸術的創造性を重視し、仕事を評価しない学校で、この芸術的な環境は最終的に彼女を演技に導くことになる。

またロンドンのロイヤルアカデミーオブドラマティックアートとニューヨークのステラアドラー演技スタジオでの夏の研究にも参加。Mayaは、ジュリアード学校で1年間演技の学士号を取得後、リトルウーマンでの役のため、中退。

Mayaは母や祖母の様に、彼女のキャリアをヴォーグをモデルからスタートさせた。又、英国のファッション小売業者AllSaintsの2016/2017コレクションの顔として選ばれ、2017年、ソフィアコッポラ監督のカルバンクラインの下着シリーズのビデオキャンペーンにおいて数人のモデルの1人として主演。

映画の仕事は、ユニバーサル・ピクチャーズの計画された実写映画化『リトル・マーメイド』のタイトルロールを演じたのも、ソフィア・コッポラの選択だった。しかし、ディレクターはより有名なクロエ・グレース・モレッツを好み、他の対立は最終的にコッポラがプロジェクトを去ることにつながった。モレッツもやがて脱落。

2017年『リトルウーマン』のBBCミニシリーズでJoe March 役を演じ演技デビューを果たす。

Robinを演じ、ジョーキーリーのSteve Harrinton と一緒にシーンに出たのが良かった。この地元のアイスクリームパーラーは、より大きな謎にキャラクター達が巻き込まれて行く前に今シーズン中、得に人気がある場面で、非常に人気のあるコンビとなっている。

 

大好きな二人。このコンビは、DustinとSteveと同じくらいラブリーなコンビ。因みにMayaが演じているRobinは、レズビアンの役柄。

その夏、Mayaは、クエンティン・タランティーノの映画「ワンス・アポン・ア・タイム・イン・ハリウッド」でリンダ・カサビアンを演じた。

Maya は次にジア・コッポラの2年生の映画、メインストリームにも出演。2021年公開されたNetflixホラー映画『Fear Street Part One：1994』にヘザーとして出演している。その後に、マエストロのレナード・バーンスタインに関するブラッドリー・クーパーの伝記映画に出演もしている。

2019年8月に最初の2枚のシングル【ToLoveaBoy】と【StayOpen】をリリース。Mayaのこの曲は、グラミー賞を受賞したシンガーソングライターのジェシー・ハリスによって書かれ、レコーディングした曲になる。2020年の初めにニューヨーク市周辺で一連のヘッドライニングギグを行った。これが、ミュージシャンとしての彼女の初めてのソロライブパフォーマンスだ。これらのショーでは、ベンジャミン・ラザール・デイビス、トース、ウィル・グレーフェ、ニック・シアンシがサポートしていた。

2020年3月18日1stシングル【By Myself】をリリースし、デビューアルバム『Blush』を発表。2nd シングル【Coverage】は2020年4月22日にリリース。父イーサンホークが監督したミュージックビデオが28日にリリース。当初は2020年6月19日にリリース予定だったが、2020年のブラック・ライヴズ・マターの抗議の中で、2020年8月21日に【Blush】は、延期されたのだ。

Mayaは、「これは自己宣伝の時ではないように感じる。活性化、教育、自己検査の時だ」と書いていた。

【Blush】のリリースをサポートするために、Mayaは、最初のミュージカルゲストとして登場した。 2020年8月下旬のトゥデイショーでの彼女のキャリアの時間、2022年6月29日、シングル「テレーズ」のリリースと並行して、2022年9月23日にリリースされる予定の2ndアルバム『Moss』を発表している。

歌詞について Lyrics

Maya Hawke は、Thérèse は、個人的なものと見極めたと説明している。彼女のこの新曲は、若い女の子、または彼女と認識される一部を見れる詩的な描写なのだ。

「彼女を降ろし、壁から外す」の歌詞は、少女が描かれている「性的なものを暗示するポーズ」をめぐる論争のために、夢見るテレーズをメットから削除し始めたオンライン請願をほのめかしている。しかし、その結果、絵画は削除された。

「このような瞬間は会話する場を提供します。ビジュアルアートは、過去と現在の両方を振り返り、継続的な進化を促すための最も重要な手段の1つです。情報に基づいた議論と創造的な表現の尊重を通じて、既存の文化を理解するのです。」

アパルーサ、シェルビーコブラ、マーロン（ブランド）は、馬、車、カウボーイです。これらは、テレーズが夢見ている夢なのだ。

視聴者は彼女の夢が何であるかを決めることができるが、テレーズはただのテレーズなのだ。

絵が不適切であると信じている人は、絵から欲しいものをとることができる。それは彼らがとることを選択するからだ。

Mayaが夢見るテレーズを見ると、彼女は若い女の子の夢を見て、それが自分の快適さのために無礼にくつろいでいるように感じている。

Maya said that the song is about ‘Thérèse dreaming’ painting by Balthus that can be seen in the Met. She sees herself in the girl and even her music video for the song Blue Hippo has the painting as its main theme.

Maya Hawke explained that she identifies personally in Thérèse, and her new song is a poetic description of the way Maya sees the young girl, or the part of herself that is identified with her.

In the song Maya imagines her while going to see the painting, and guessing what’s in Thérèse’s mind. She wishes she was older, and she’s probably dreaming about a boy. In Maya’s mind, Thérèse is lost in her own world, a world completely different from the one we all know. And it’s normal we don’t understand her.

The song describes the elements of the painting, like the white dress, the cat drinking milk. And after that, it’s all about the singer’s imagination of Thérèse’s thoughts. The bond between the singer and the subject of the painting is so strong, that Maya feels that the painting is a provocation for the rest of the world, and only few people can bear with it. Most of the world will just reject it, because they are not able to understand the beauty of it. This is what Maya sings in the chorus and in the end of the song.

With this image Maya splits the world in sensitive people able to catch the beauty of Thérèse and the others, who can only understand cars and horses. After all, Thérèse is a poetic song about the singer’s imagination towards a painting and an image that represents something important for her.

A critique on life and the way in which one may live it. To sit as carelessly in whimsy as Thérèse does is presenting the concept of going about life in a tactless way. Life is a test, but you could just be Thérèse and dream, unaware of any minuscule bothers.

Thérèse” is inspired by a painting [Thérèse dreaming by Balthus] but about feeling hemmed in and stuck. Stuck as the version of yourself that someone else created.

white kitchen means This lyric describes the painting again with the detail of the white cat

“Get her down, take her off the wall” could be alluding to an online petition that was started to have Thérèse Dreaming removed from the Met, due to controversy surrounding the “sexually suggestive pose” the young girl is depicted in. This did not result in the painting being removed, however, the Met responding “Moments such as this provide an opportunity for conversation, and visual art is one of the most significant means we have for reflecting on both the past and the present, and encouraging the continuing evolution of existing culture through informed discussion and respect for creative expression”.

Hawke was born on July 8, 1998, in New York City, the older of two children born to actors Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.Her parents met on the set of Gattaca (1997), married in May 1998, and divorced in 2005. Hawke has a brother. She also has two half-sisters by her father’s second wife, Ryan Shawhughes. She has another half-sister from her mother’s ex-fiancé, financier Arpad Busson.

On her father’s side, Hawke is a distant cousin of playwright Tennessee Williams. On her mother’s side, she is a granddaughter of Buddhist scholar Robert Thurman and model Baroness Nena von Schlebrügge. Schlebrügge’s mother, Birgit Holmquist, was also a model, having posed for Axel Ebbe’s statue Famntaget, currently in Smygehuk in Sweden.

Hawke has dyslexia, which resulted in her changing schools frequently during her primary education before she was finally enrolled at Saint Ann’s School, a private school in Brooklyn, New York that emphasizes artistic creativity and does not grade work. The artistic environment eventually led her to acting. Hawke also took part in summer studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York. She studied toward a BFA in acting at the Juilliard School for one year before dropping out after accepting her role in Little Women.

Hawke was Sofia Coppola’s choice to play the title role of The Little Mermaid in Universal Pictures’s planned live-action adaptation. However, the producers preferred the better-known Chloë Grace Moretz. This and other conflicts ultimately led to Coppola leaving the projectMoretz eventually dropped out as well.

In 2017, Hawke made her acting debut as Jo March in the BBC miniseries adaptation of Little Women. Hawke’s breakout role came through her co-starring performance as Robin Buckley in the third season of Netflix’s 【Stranger Things】which was released in 2019. Hawke, as Robin, spent most of her scenes with Joe Keery’s character of Steve Harrington as co-workers at a local ice-cream parlor before stumbling onto a larger mystery, creating a popular and critically favored pair of characters for the season. Also that summer, Hawke played Linda Kasabianin Quentin Tarantino’s film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Hawke next starred in Gia Coppola’s sophomore film, Mainstream. She appeared as Heather in the Netflix horror film Fear Street Part One: 1994, which was released in 2021.

Hawke will next appear in ‘Bradley Cooper’s biographical film about Leonard Bernstein, Maestro.

In August 2019, Hawke released her first two singles, “To Love a Boy” and “Stay Open”.The songs were written and recorded by Hawke and Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Jesse Harris. Hawke performed a series of headlining gigs around New York City in early 2020, her first ever solo live performances as a musician. In each of these shows, Hawke was supported by Benjamin Lazar Davis, Tōth Will Graefe and Nick Cianci respectively. On March 18, 2020, Hawke released the first single “By Myself” and announced her debut album titled Blush. The album’s second single, “Coverage”, was released on April 22, 2020, before its music video directed by Maya’s father Ethan Hawke was released on the 28th. Initially set for release on June 19, 2020, Blush was delayed to August 21, 2020  amid the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests. Hawke wrote, “I feel like this is not a time for self-promotion.
