2017年にカナダのグラミー賞である、Juno Awardsで the Juno Awards for Breakthrough Group of the Yearを受賞した実力派トリオだ。

The Dirty Nil is a Canadian alternative rock band from Hamilton, Ontario, who won the Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2017. The band consists of singer and guitarist Luke Bentham, bassist Ross Miller and drummer Kyle Fisher.

最高だなっ、この爆音。
余計なものがない分、実力が試されるサウンドだ。
技量、力量、熱量って奴よ。

クオリティ高いと思う。
ストレートなロックだし、どちらかと言うとヴォーカルは絶叫系だから楽って言ったら楽なんだけど、こんな感じのスカスカになりそうなサウンドを、ビシッと決めるのは難しい。
Lyraは、彼らのシンプルさを押し通して、長過ぎず短過ぎずの尺で、タイトに決めてる所が好き。
ダサい感じも味に見えてくるんだもの。

どのバンドとは言えないが (言って良いのだが、言うと又、暇なアホな人達が、文句言いに来て面倒になる為、伏せておく)、隙間を全部埋めたがるバンドが多い。
特に最近の日本は、そんな感じしない？
ありがちだし、曲を作るのって我が子を生み出す行為と似てるから、ツイ手間暇かけて育てて行きたくなるものなのよね。
だから、なんでも良かれと思って、歌詞だろうが、楽器だろうが、やれることは、何でも詰め込みたくなるの。その行為は非常に理解できる。
ただ、音の隙間がなく詰め込みすぎは、辛い。
煩いだけ。
感じる余白が欲しくなるのよ。
それをラウド・ミュージックと言いたいんだろうけど、、、
好みの問題だけど、
煩いわ。
The Dirty Nilは、学生時代の仲間が集まって206年に結成された。
2011年、デビューシングル【Fuckin’up Young】をリリース後、北アメリカツアー開始。
地道にロードを回り、EPリリース後に、2016年にフルのスタジオ・アルバム『Higher Powerin’』をリリース。これがデビューアルバムになります。
2017年に『Minimum R&B』をリリース。これは初期のシングルを集めたコンピレーションだが、かなりの好セールスを記録。
そして、2018年9月14日にこの2nd、躍動する『Mastnr Volume』をリリースした。

【Astro Ever After】は、The Dirty Nil のお気に入りの一曲だと言う。
この曲は最高な曲。
「この曲自身で、輝く瞬間があるに値する曲なんだよ。ただ君たちが何でも良いから取り敢えず作るっていうんだったら、こんなシンプル過ぎる曲は作らない方が良いぜ」
うわ、Lyraが考えてることと同じこと言ってるわ！
シンプル過ぎる、音数が少ない曲って、技量、力量、熱量が余程ないと、上手くやりこなせないのようぅぅぅ。
でしょ？
【Astro Ever After】は、宇宙に飛び出したいと欲している人間の歌。
つまり、面倒くさいこの地球というしがらみから解き放たれて自由になりたいと言う解放の歌だと言っていい。
それは人間なら誰しも抱く感情だろう。
地球から離れたいは、きっと、今いる辛い状況から逃れたい、の意味だと感じる。
The Dirty Nilもこの曲の良さを語っていた。
「誰しも宇宙と一体化したいと言う欲望があるだろう。そして、皆この美しくも短い人生に感謝し、空の荘厳さ、ストーナーメタルの沈殿物みたいなこの曲は、みんなのものさ。気にいるよ。」
しがらみなんて、あって当たり前。それが人間関係だと思うし、愛をもって接したい。
でも、生きていると汚い人間達にもあってしまう。
「してくれ」「やってくれ」と欲してばかりの人が多過ぎ。
「これが大の大人がすることか？」と呆れてしまう。
礼儀や相手を思いやる気持ちとか、ママに教わって来なかったの？
全く手が焼けるやつばかり。
Give & Take ってのが普通でしょ？

The Dirty Nil released their Master Volume back in 2018, but the Hamilton rock unit are revisiting those sessions with the newly shared song “Astro Ever After.”
As the band explain, “Astro Ever After” was a favourite from those recording sessions, but they held onto it because “it deserves its own moment to fucking shine.” But whatever you do, don’t write off the track as a simple outtake.
In the words of the Dirty Nil:
“Astro Ever After” is by no means an out-take from Master Volume. It’s an accompanying track that we chose to release after the bulk of the material simply because we can. Out of all the songs we recorded during the Master Volume sessions, this is certainly one of our favourites. For anyone with a space lust, and for those who appreciate the beauty and brevity of life, the majesty of the sky, and the sludge of stoner metal: this one’s for you. Please friends, crank and enjoy.
The band members began playing together in high school, and formed The Dirty Nil in 2006. They released their debut single “Fuckin’ Up Young” in 2011, and began touring North America, performing in clubs and at festivals. They followed with a series of further singles and EPs and released their full-length debut album Higher Powerin 2016. Following that album’s success, they released Minimum R&B, a compilation of the early singles and EP tracks in 2017. The Dirty Nil released their second studio album Master Volume on September 14, 2018 on Dine Alone Records, and released the first single from the album, “Bathed in Light”.

Music critics commonly label the band under the punk rock genre. The band mixes the swaggering riffs of hard rock with the attitude and energy of punk. Despite these classifications, the band defines themselves as just a rock band.
