It was released on January 18, 2024, through Night Street Records and Warner Records as the lead single of his debut studio album, Fireworks & Rollerblades (2024). Benson Boone ベンソン・ブーンはロサンゼルスに引っ越してすぐの2023年9月29日にこの曲を書き始めたと言う。当初、2晩連続で2つの異なる曲を作り始める予定だったが、ソングライターのジャック・ラフランツが、2つの曲を1つに結合することを提案。それが【Beautiful Things】になったのだ。Bensonは、インスピレーションとして最近始めた恋愛を挙げている。

「俺は、ロサンゼルスに引っ越したばかりで、祖母が持っていた古いピアノをリビングルームに移動した。ある夜、眠れず、どうしたらいいのかわからなかったので、階下に降りてピアノを弾き始めたんだ。そのときに【Beautiful Things】のメロディーを書いた。翌日セッションがあり、それをスタジオに持ち込んだ。」

【Beautiful Things】は、「人生の意味についてのバラード」だ。

Benson は人生への感謝、愛、そして「幸福の移ろいやすさ」について振り返っている。

Benson James Boone (born June 25, 2002) is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Born and raised in Monroe, Washington, his career began when he started sharing his music on the social media platform TikTok, subsequently auditioning for American Idol. He later withdrew from the competition, but continued to gain popularity on TikTok, and subsequently signed to Night Street Records, the label of Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds.

 

“Beautiful Things”, Benson Boone revealed the inspiration behind this lyric:

I’ve got pretty awesome parents, and I’m very blessed for that. When they met this person, they couldn’t stop talking about how much they loved the person I was when I was around them. When the people in your life that you love welcome, with open arms, a person that you’re in love with, it’s the best feeling.

 

Benson Boone began writing the song on September 29, 2023, shortly after moving to Los Angeles. Initially beginning two different songs over two consecutive evenings, songwriter Jack LaFrantz suggested combining the two songs into one, which became “Beautiful Things”. Boone cited a relationship he had recently begun as inspiration.

“Yeah, it was inspired by a relationship that I had just gotten into — for the first time in my life, I felt like I was extremely out of control of the way this relationship would turn out. Meaning like, in the past, I feel like I’ve always known that I could be the one to end a relationship.” -Benson Boone to Billboard

How did Benson Boone come up with the idea for “Beautiful Things”?

I wrote it on my piano September 29th. I’d just moved to L.A., and I’d moved my grandma’s old piano up to my living room. I couldn’t sleep one night, and I didn’t know what to do, so I came downstairs and started playing the piano. That’s when I wrote the melodies for “Beautiful Things.” The next day I had a session, and I took it into the studio.

This line is a Biblical reference to Job 1:21 in which it reads:

And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord”

The book of Job centers around God allowing the blessings in Job’s life, such as his health, wealth, and children, to be removed. The song is sung from a similar perspective where the singer fears that “these beautiful things that I’ve got”, including his lover, will be taken away.

I found my mind, I’m feeling sane- Benson feels at peace with where his life is, and has relaxed at this small moment that he found.

It’s been a while, but I’m finding my faith- This goes back to his religious theme, and hints at the possibility that his belief in a higher power has been challenged. But because of this peaceful time that he is in, he is starting to grow his belief.

If everything’s good and it’s great why do I sit and wait til it’s gone?- Benson illustrates that it is easy to keep faith and to maintain happiness when everything around you is going well, but it’s harder to maintain that happiness and faith when something bad happens. He knows that the only thing constant in life is change, and the change is terrifying when you sit around and wait for the next tragedy to hit. He is worried that when this tragedy hits he will go back to where he was before his relationship.
