Bring Me The HorizonのサウンドにしてはかなりPopだから聴きやすいのに〜。大衆ウケすること間違い無いサウンドで、大衆を受け付けない映像というのが、BTHぽいって言ったらそうかもね。

売れ線サウンドにゴアなMV
この新曲「losT」は、My Chemical Romance マイ・ケミカル・ロマンスから影響を受けて作られた現代のエモシーンとバンドの音楽性を融合させて作られた歌。
大ヒットが予測されているにも関わらず、やばいビデオを制作するんだからね〜。MVは人体実験から逃れようとする男 (Oli)描かれている。
かなり人間不信になっている男性の歌詞と合っている映像だが、あまりに過激なためyoutubeでは年齢制限がかかっているのですよ。
一応公式SNSでは先に楽曲の一部が聴けるティーザー映像が投稿されていたから、チラ見した人入るでしょう。びっくりしたよね。

【LosT】
LosTとして様式化されている所は、拘りあるOliらしいタイトルだ。
ザック・チェルヴィニとイーヴィル・ツインがプロデュースしたこの曲は、2020年の『ポスト・ヒューマン:サバイバル・ホラー』に続くポスト・ヒューマン名義の第2作目となるバンドの2023年リリース『ポスト・ヒューマン:ネックス・ジェン』からの3枚目のシングルとして2023年5月4日にリリースされた。アルバムは来年2024年1月11日リリース予定。

Oli Syksは、BBC ラジオ1で「この曲はバンドが2年以上かけて取り組んできた非常に個人的な曲なので、リリースするのに、こんなに興奮しているのは久しぶりだ」と語っている。完成に大満足なのが分かってLyraも嬉しい。あの笑顔は可愛い。
Spotify のチャート用に作られた他の短いクリップの中でOliは、「自分の気持ちを誰かが理解してくれると嬉しいな、ってよく思う」と言っていて、「この曲はその絶好の機会だ」と語っている。
きっと思うことが沢山ありすぎて、吐き出さないとダメな状態なのかも？ Oliは繊細な人だからきっと普通の人の倍以上、傷ついたり悲しみに暮れたりしているのかもしれない。そうじゃなけりゃ、この【LosT】みたいな歌詞「誰も信じらない」と言う歌詞には行きつかないから。
明るくキャッチーなサウンドにした理由
「普通シングルでは、俺たちのバンドが好きではない人や、逆に俺たちのバンドを知っている人たちに興味を持ってもらう為に、役立つものを探しているんだ。理由の一つに、特に芸術的な曲ではないのはわかってるけど、キャッチーな曲はシングルになってしまう。
【DiE4u】や【sTraNgeRs】と比べると、すごくエモい感じだもの。それは音楽的にこのレコードのテーマの1つであり、他の2曲に比べてもう少しそこに重点を置いているんだよ。
俺たちがこれまでに作った他の曲と比べて、もうちょっと楽しくて明るい曲だ。 【Die4u】も【sTraNgeRs】もどちらかというとバラードっぽいから、もう少し明るい楽しい曲をやるのがクールだったんだ。
ああいう感じか、もう少しヘヴィな曲をやるかのどちらかだったし、レコードの残りの部分にはもっとヘヴィな曲が収録される予定だったので、ここでドロップするのは良いことだと感じたんだ。俺たちが正しいかどうか見てみようぜ！ 」と—ジョーダン・フィッシュはKerrangで話していた。
Oliも公式でメッセージを公表していて、

追記: Music Videoについて
【LosT】のミュージックビデオは、Jensen NoenとOli Syks が監督し、シングルがリリースされた1時間後の2023年5月4日に公開。このビデオはカリフォルニア州ロサンゼルスで撮影され、 病院内を舞台にしている。Oliは脳手術を受けそうになった後に暴れ出す患者を演じている。
このビデオでは、ゴアや流血のビジュアルが多数披露されている。冒頭で嫌な人は見ないように、とLyraが書いたのもわかるでしょ？あのようなリアルな仕上がりに、 YouTube では年齢制限を受けることになってしまった。
ミュージックビデオは3日間にわたって撮影され、『American Pie』アメリカン・パイで有名なトーマス・イアン・ニコラスもカメオ出演している。ニコラスはプロデューサーの一人と友人だったため、ビデオへの参加を熱望したらしい。だから、撮影に招待されたのだ。
Oliは、最初はその姿に気付かず、ビデオ撮影に現れてこう言ったときに初めて彼に気づいたと説明した。
「ちょっと待って、あれは『アメリカン・パイ』のケビンかい？」と後にカメオ出演を「純粋に幸運だった」と述べた。
Promonewsとのインタビューで、監督のJensen Noen はミュージックビデオでOli と仕事をするのがどのような感じだったかを

歌詞について
この【LosT】は、批評家によって色々違う印象を受けるみたい。ポップパンクと言う人もいれば、エモポップ、ハイパーポップ、ポップロック、オルタナティブロックソングとも評されている。
個人的にLyraにはMachingun Kellyのポップパンクらしいサウンドに似てると思う。去年このブログでも取り上げた【Maybe】とかMGKと一緒に何回かコラボしたりしていたから、その流れなら当然な作品だと感じる。

この曲はバンドのリードボーカリストのオリバー・サイクス、キーボード奏者のジョーダン・フィッシュ、ギタリストのリー・マリア、ベーシストのマット・キーン、ドラマーのマット・ニコルズによって書かれ、ザック・チェルヴィニとイービル・ツインがプロデュースしている。

歌詞から推測できるように、精神疾患の治療薬が「何も機能していない」(=効かない) と感じている人が、どのように考えているかを描いている曲だ。ストロークスと同様に、このトラックの背後にある主なインスピレーションの1つとしても引用されている。
BBCラジオ1でクララ・アムフォと話した際、Oliは、前作シングル【Strangers】と比べて【LosT】をリリースすることにどれほど興奮しているかについて次のように説明した。
「ネガティブに聞こえたら嫌なんだけど、曲をリリースすることにこれまでで一番興奮しなかった。それは、まだ世界に聴いてもらいたい種類の曲とは思えなかったからだと思う[「Lost」]この次のアルバムやEP、その他何と呼んでもいいが、俺がどのようにサウンドするだろうと想像しているかが、正確に凝縮されており、このレコードがどのようなものであるかを、俺が想像しているのを非常によく表現しているよ」
先程の公の場でのインタビューとは違うのが不思議。当たり前にリリースしたから興奮しなかったと言うことか？それともこの曲より素晴らしい作品が後で出来ると期待するからか？真逆を言ってるから心配。後者ならばよいけれど。アルバムリリースが遅れたのも不安定さが理由かしら？
しばらくしてOliは、この曲について「より正直」だと感じたと付け加えている。
「この曲を自分自身とのセラピーセッション」に例えていた。
Oliは、2014年にケタミンの使用により危機に陥って入院したことがある。その後、ケタミンへの過去の依存症について言及した。
「俺は、ケタミンという薬物の中毒だった。俺は、何年もそれを続けていたけど、頭がおかしくなってしまった。俺のバンドは俺を殺そうとし、両親は俺を殺そうとし、兄は俺を殺そうとした。誰もが俺を地獄に連れて行きたかったのだが、そうじゃなかったんだ。彼らは俺の味方だったんだ。彼らはそんなひどいことでも俺をサポートしてくれたし、そのおかげで俺たちは『Sempitternal』を書いたんだ。」と語っている。まるでこの【LosT】の歌詞だ。
ケタミンの副作用で周りの人間が全員自分を殺めようとしてると考えるなんて…酷すぎる。医師も合わない薬をあげ続けるなんて怖すぎ。でもアーティストの事故死で薬物が絡んでいることが多いから、本当にOliには気をつけてほしい。そのまま続けていたらどうなっていたことか。
これ以上、好きなアーティストにはいなくならないで欲しいから。

EVANGELION
解説の中にエヴァンゲリオンが出て来ているのがOliらしい。ご存知だと思うけれど、一応書いておくとEVANGELIONは、庵野秀明が創作したガイナックス制作の日本のSFシリーズアニメーションです。
この物語では、ネルフという準軍事組織が、十代の若者たち(14歳の子達)が操縦する巨大メカ「エヴァンゲリオン」（通称「エヴァ」）に乗り、使徒として知られる怪物と戦う未来の世界を舞台としている。
この歌詞の部分を2013年の【Sempiternal】の「And the Snakes Start to Sing」の最初の行をコールバックしたものだと考える人もいるが、この歌詞の部分は、実際には曲の前の行を指しており、エヴァンゲリオンのプロットが理解しにくいことを指している。記憶喪失を引き起こすことが知られているケタミンが多いから、その作用をより強く印象づけたいから使用したと思う。
犬
「俺の犬は死んだばかりで、友達は俺を嫌っている」は悲しくなる歌詞だ。オスカーはOli Sykesの犬であり親友だった。だが、2021年4月26日に亡くなってしまった。Oli は彼にこう言って別れを告げた。 「昨日、俺は親友を亡くしました。 オスカーは昨日自宅で安らかに息を引き取りました。 彼はいつも俺のためにいて、俺がどのような状況にあったとしても決して俺を批判せず、いつも俺に純粋な愛を与えてくれました。 」と悲しいエピソードを話している。この悲しい事実をよりリアルに感じさせようとしているだけだと思う。
「さようなら、オスキー、あなたは最高の少年でした。」 とInstagramで投稿していた。
この文の中でオスカーとの友情が友人たちとの友情よりも大きかったことに言及し、彼らを今では彼を憎んでいる人々と呼んでいると歌詞に書いてあるがヤバすぎる。人を信じられなくなっているのがわかる歌詞だ。判断ができなくなっているのだろう。
「三日月」の部分は、シングルのアートワークのことを指している。そこに見られるように、爪を手にグッと押し込むと、三日月のような跡ができる。つまりこれは、怒りで拳を握り締めることへの隠喩のようだ。

では、Oli Sykes は彼の ADHD について話しているのかもしれない。 ADHDは薬で治療されることが多い病気だ。この薬は現在のところADHDを「治す」ものではないが、人々がADHDにうまく対処し、よりよく生きるのに役立つと期待できる。
ここで彼は、それが自分にとってあまりうまくいっていないことを告白しているのだ。
「分別」とは、危機に瀕している、または自分自身や他人に危険を及ぼす精神疾患患者が非自発的に入院することを指す。
彼は、セラピストに対して自分が正直すぎたと信じていると述べている。
セラピストは、彼を観察のために精神科拘留室に送らせようとして彼の信頼を裏切ったのだから。
セラピスト=裏切り者と考えてしまうならば、治療は上手くいってないことになる。信頼関係が築けない医者とは治療は進まない。崩壊してしまうのだ。
「俺は崩壊してしまうだろう」と叫ぶOli。
成功していて何でも作れる状況なのに、悲しいことを考えてしまうOliがいたたまれない。やはりもう手には入らないあの人を思っているからだろうか？
痛々し過ぎて彼の痛みが１日でも早くなくなるように願う。

Bring me the horizon’s frontman Oli Sykes stated at BBC radio one that he hasn’t been this excited about a release in a long time because this is such a personal song that the band had been working on for more than two years.
In another short clip made for the Spotify charts he expresses that he feels like often it’s just nice to see someone understand what you are feeling and this song is the perfect opportunity for that.
Usually on the singles we’re looking for something that’ll help people who don’t necessarily like our band – or know our band – engage with it. That’s part of the reason, I know it’s not a particularly artistic one, but catchy songs end up being singles. Compared to “DiE4u” and “sTraNgeRs”, it’s very emo-y feeling. That’s kind of one of the themes of the record musically, it goes a bit more there compared to the other two. It’s a bit more fun and upbeat compared to other songs we’ve done. Both “Die4u” and “sTraNgeRs” are more like ballads, so doing something a bit more upbeat and fun was cool. It was either that or do something slightly heavier, and we’ve got some heavier stuff coming on the rest of the record, so it felt like a good thing to drop now. We’ll see if we’re right!

Video
The music video for “Lost” was released an hour after the single was released on 4 May 2023, directed by Jensen Noen and frontman Oli Sykes. The video was filmed in Los Angeles, California
The video is set inside a hospital where Sykes plays a patient who goes on a rampage, after nearly undergoing brain surgery. The video showcases many visuals of gore and bloodshed, which resulted in the song getting age restricted on YouTube. The music video for “Lost” was shot over the course of three days and also features a cameo by Thomas Ian Nicholas of American Pie fame. Nicholas was invited to the shoot due to being friends with one of the producers, being keen to take part in the video. Sykes explained that he was initially oblivious to the appearance, only recognisining him when he turned up to the video shoot and said; “Wait a minute, is that Kevin from American Pie?”, later referring to the cameo as “pure luck.”

In an interview with Promonews, Noen explained what it was like working with Sykes on the music video:
This is such an important milestone for me personally to get to work with the artist who I have been a fan of since 2009. The band grew, evolved, and changed before my very eyes throughout my life and was always one of the few bands in the world beyond respected by me for pushing the boundaries of heavy music and consistently creating something new and unique. Having the opportunity to get to know and work with Oli Sykes and witnessing how he cares about every detail, his perfectionism, and his creativity was truly inspiring. I’m super grateful for not only the opportunity to work together but for a chance to try something new and step out of my creative ‘comfort zone’.
Sykes also later added that he felt the song was “more honest” and compared it to a therapy session with himself. In an interview with Kerrang!, Fish explained why the band chose “Lost” as thie third single for Post Human: Nex Gen.

Lost” has been described by critics as a pop punk, emo pop, hyperpop, pop rock, and an alternative rock song. The song was written by the band’s lead vocalist Oliver Sykes, keyboardist Jordan Fish, guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean and drummer Matt Nicholls, and produced by Zakk Cervini and Evil Twin. “Lost” deals with themes of depression, drug abuse and suicide. The song leans into how someone who feels that their medication for their mental illess is “not doing anything” as inferred by the lyrics. Many critics noted how “Lost” felt inspired by My Chemical Romance, which Sykes also cited as one of the main inspirations behind the track as well as The Strokes.
When speaking to Clara Amfo on BBC Radio 1, Sykes explained about how excited he felt to release “Lost” compared to the previous single “Strangers”:
I don’t wanna sound negative, but it was the least excited I’ve been about releasing a song, just because it didn’t feel like the kind of song I wanted the world to hear yet, I think [“Lost”] encapsulates exactly how I imagine this next album or EP or whatever you want to call it, is going to sound like, it is a really good representation of how I imagine this record to be.”
Oli Sykes refers to his past addiction to ketamine, revealed in 2014, after being hospitalized for suffering a crisis due to the use of the drug.
I was addicted to a drug called ketamine. I was on it for years and I was fucked off my head. My band wanted to kill me, my parents wanted to kill me and my brother wanted to kill me. Everyone wanted to fucking take me to hell – but they didn’t. They stood by me. They supported me through all that shit and we wrote Sempiternal because of it.
