今日、Lyraが和訳＆解説するのは、イングランド のロックミュージシャンでありPunk Rock のシンボル的存在である Joe Strummer ジョー・ストラマー、本名は John Graham Mellor ジョン・グレアム・メラー(1952年8月21日- 2002年12月22日)。

パンク・ロックバンド The Clash ザ・クラッシュのVocalistとして世界的に知られている。

The Clashは、Sex PistolsとならびイギリスのPunk Movementを牽引したバンドであり、その存在、生き方までもが大きな影響力を未だに持っている。

二大キングといて良いほど。

今日は、そのJoeの名を知らしめたThe Clashの曲で、前にこのブログで紹介したのとは違うテイストを選ぼうか？とも考えましたが、

Joe Strummer のお誕生日よ！

と考えたらLyraの頭にピン！と浮かんだのが「Happy Birthday」ならぬ「Happy Moodな曲を」ということ。

確かにお誕生日だから楽しくしたい！

ということでJoe Strummerのソロプロジェクトからバンドになった、最期のバンドになってしまった、Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros の曲を和訳します。

ジョー・ストラマー（Joe Strummer）＆ザ・メスカレロス (The Mescaleros) は1999年に結成されたジョー・ストラマーのバンド。

2002年 のストラマーの死までに3枚のアルバムを発表し、メンバーの多くは複数の楽器をこなすマルチプレイヤーの集まりだ。

Lyraが和訳した曲は、彼らのスタジオアルバムでは３枚目になる、遺作『Street Core』(2003年)から【Coma Girl】を選びました。

イギリス人でも、意味わかってない人が多い曲です。Rock好きじゃないとわからないニュアンスだから。

が、Rock好きLyraならばこう訳すぜ！って、Joeの気持ちになりながら和訳しましたよん。

和訳しながらLyraは、Joe Strummerの愛をバシバシ感じてHighになった！

John Graham Mellor (21 August 1952 – 22 December 2002), known by his stage name Joe Strummer, was an English musician, singer, actor and songwriter who was the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist of the Clash, a punk rock band formed in 1976 as part of the original wave of British punk.

and The Mescaleros were the backing band for Joe Strummer, formed in 1999, which went on to make three albums prior to Strummer’s death in 2002.

Streetcore is the third and final studio album by Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros. The album was completed after the death of frontman Joe Strummer, primarily by Martin Slattery and Scott Shields, and released on 21 October 2003.

とってもハートが暖かくなるラブソングだ。

この曲を聴くとLyraはDaddy のことを思い出す。

そして、Joe Strummerの優しい笑顔も脳裏に浮かぶ。優しい眼差しも、、、

【Coma Girl】というタイトルの中のComa に惑わされてしまう人が多いだろう。

何故なら「Coma = 昏睡状態」の意味が真っ先に浮かぶからだよ。だが、本当の意味は違う。

Joe はThe Clash【London Calling】の解説をこのブログで書いた時にも話したが、政治的要素や社会問題を取り入れ、ナショナリズムに対抗する歌詞を書く事が多かった。

だからComaならば、昏睡状態に陥っているRock Girl ロックな女の子の歌で社会批判しているかと、勘違いしても無理もない。

それに、このMusic Videoがおかしい。Punk少年を意識したのか、製作者側がお色気入れたくて女の撮影してるのがミエミエ。

歌詞を知らない人は、これ見たら、ヤク中のPunk Girlが昏睡状態になった歌と勘違いする。

だが、Joe Strummer が好きな人ならばLyraの考えを理解してくれるて思う、、、この歌は、昏睡状態を歌う悲惨な歌ではない。

この曲は、Joe Strummerのもう一つの顔、Daddy の顔、つまり、優しい父親としてのLove Songなのだよ。

意外に思う？

Lyraには、Joeの眼差し、たまにインタビューで溢れ出てしまうユーモアや優しさから当たり前のJoeの素顔にしか見えない。

素直な彼の愛情だからLyraには、不思議でも何でもないよ。Joe 好きの貴方ならわかるでしょう？

この【Coma Girl】の歌詞を読むとロック好きならわかると思うが、この situation は野外ライブだ。

Joeが、イングランドでは1番有名な Festival 、Glastonbury Festival に出演した時の気持ちを書いた歌詞なの。

昔インタビューで読んだか、見たんだか、どちらかは忘れたけど、Joe には娘さんがいて、確かまだ小さい時に連れて行った時に、小さい彼女が遊んだり、寝てしまった時の事を話していてその事を曲に書いたようなの。

はっきり覚えてるのは、Lyraが見た時に、Joeが子供をThe Pretenders プリテンダーズの Chrissie Hynde  クリッシー・ハインドの子供と芝生で遊ばせていて、ああだこうだ言ってるところ、、、Daddyらしくて微笑ましかったのを覚えている。

冒頭にLyraが選んだ写真が、その時のにソックリだったので「誕生日のKissみたいで良いなっ」て思って選んだんだけど、雰囲気、わかる？

可愛いでしょう？

【Coma Girl】は、その時の気持ちを書いたのだろう。

もしかしたらDouble Meaningを狙ったかもしれない。

最近、迷っていることがあって、、、つまらない話だけど、

「Lyraが詳しく丁寧に書くブログを書く必要がないんじゃないかな？」って迷っているの。

Lyraのブログで詳しく情報を書いてると、直ぐに他の悪者に、内容や情報を盗まれてしまうのも嫌だからだ。バレないと思ってるのでしょうね。バレてるよ！

ただ盗まれるならばムカつき度も普通で上がらないんだけど、完璧にCopy & Pastしてると頭にくる。あと、意見が全く同じ文章とかね。

Lyraの文章をパクらないで、載せたいならば「これ書いたのはLyra Skyさんですよ」とか普通に「こちらの方が記事の元です」とリンクを貼り「情報源はココです」と分かるようにしてほしい。これブログやってる人は皆んな悩むことだよね。

話が逸れてごめんなさい。

何かJoeの 【Coma Girl】の和訳と解説していて、自分のJoeへの大切な想いまで盗まれてしまうのかな？て、感じてしまって…。

この【Coma Girl】を久しぶりにジックリ聴いて、フッてLyraは感じた。

自分の理想の風景はこれかな？って。

広がる景色が見えた。

ボヤーッてしていた未来は、いつか此処に辿り着くのかもしれない。

その時は、Joeみたいに雨に濡れたくないな(笑)。

“Desolation Row” is a 1965 song writtenand sung by Bob Dylan. It was recorded on August 4, 1965, and was released  as the closing track  of Dylan’s  sixth studio album,  Highway 61 Revisited. During its length of11 minutes, Dylan weaves together a number of characters lifted from history, fiction and the Bible, into a narrative which suggests entropy and urban chaos. The song has been covered  by many artists, including My Chemical Romance for the film Watchmen  in 2009.

I remember watching & reading old interviews were Joe mentioned that amid all the goings on at Glastonbury he noticed his daughter fast asleep , hence Coma Girl. and Coma means plants’ hair like dandelions.

So I translated fancy hair cute girl and     that girl Joe’s daughter plays with rockers and sleeping in Glastobury.

 

Streetcore is the third and final studio album by Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros. The album was completed after the death of frontman Joe Strummer, primarily by Martin Slattery and Scott Shields, and released on 21 October 2003. The album marks the band’s transition from their previous genre-bending work to a more straightforward rock album, reminiscent of Strummer’s early work with The Clash. The album received a positive critical reception and is generally seen as a return to form and a high point for Strummer to have gone out on.
