本名Adele Laurie Blue Adkins アデル・ローリー・ブルー・アドキンスは、10代の母の元に、ロンドンのトッテナムで生まれた。母は、夫(Adele の父親)が娘のAdeleが2歳の時に家族のもとを去った為に、シングルマザーとして頑張って育てた。
その為、Adeleは父親のことを許したことは無いと語る。
身長175cmと今でこそ高身長のAdeleだが、4歳の頃から歌うことに夢中になり友達とSpice Girlsの歌を歌っていたと言う。
9歳でブライトンに、11歳で南ロンドンに引っ越し、16歳から作曲とギター演奏を開始しながら音楽学校である、ブリット・スクールを卒業。(レオナ・ルイスとジェシー・Jが同級生であった。)

Adleのこの2nd アルバム『21』はレコーディング当時の年齢であるが、基本的に「離別」のアルバムだ。
彼女の失恋に対する感情が反映されている。
アルバムのレコーディング前、恋人との時間を過ごすために、彼女のデビュー・アルバムが支持されたことによって行われた2008年の欧米ツアーAn Evening with Adele をキャンセルしたことが明らかとなり、彼女の交際はイギリスのマスコミの悪評を受けていた。
「色々な理由があったから」とコメントを出したAdeleだったが、多分、愛する人とこれから自らが歩むスターダムへの道で迷い、愛する彼氏をと過ごす方をとったのだと思う。
どんなに世間にこき下ろされても良い、愛する人と一緒にいたい。
Lyraも同じ状況ならば、絶対に「愛」を取る。
真剣ならば愛する人が1番大事だから。
だが、その相手が悪い男性だったらしい。
多分、名声を得ていくAdeleが羨ましいかったのが妬みに変わってしまったのだろう。
その男性は、性格が悪かったようでAdeleに「君や君の人生は寂しくて、面白味がない。それに、恋愛が出来ない弱い人間だ」と言って責めたと言う。
この話をインタビューで聞いて、「そんな酷いこと良く彼女に言うなあ」と頭に来てしまった。

深くAdeleは傷ついたと語るのも無理もないと思う。

Adeleは、『19』と並べることで、彼女の個性と芸術性の成長を象徴するために、タイトルを『21』に決定したとも、自らのブログで述べている。

見かけによらずRed Hot Chili Peppers【Californiacation】が大好きなAdele は、そのアルバムのプロデューサー、リック・ルービンと仕事をした。
2008年にサタデー・ナイト・ライブへ出演し、「Chasing Pavements」を演奏していた際、その観衆の中にいたルービンを認識したのが、初めてのアデルとルービンの出会いだったと言う。
2009年のグラミー賞で会った後に共同制作が決定し、ルービンの共同制作は最終的に「Don’t You Remember」、「He Won’t Go」、「One and Only」、The Cure ザ・キュアーの「Lovesong」カヴァーをルービンがプロデュースすることによって実を結んだ。

In an interview Adele expressed her initial reservations prior to meeting Paul Epworth due to their divergent musical styles, but characterised their collaboration as “a match made in heaven.” She also credited Epworth for her increased vocal confidence, stating, “He brought a lot out of me. He brought my voice out as well—there’s notes that I hit in that song (“Rolling in the Deep”) that I never even knew I could hit.” According to reviewer Bill Lamb, “Rolling in the Deep” features “martial beats, pounding piano keys and chanting backing singers”. Adele’s vocals have been described as having a “hint of Wanda Jackson’s dirty-blues growl”. According to Nadine Cheung from AoL Radio Blog the song is “sung from the perspective of a scorned lover, who is finally able to see the light, but despite regretful sentiments, reconciliation is not an option here.” “Rolling in the Deep” is written in the key of C minor (B minor for live performances), in common time with a tempo of 105 beats per minute.
The song was reportedly inspired by a Nashville-schooled US tour bus driver, and composed by Epworth and Adele in a single afternoon following Adele’s breakup with her boyfriend. It was “her reaction to, ‘being told that my life was going to be boring and lonely and rubbish, and that I was a weak person if I didn’t stay in the relationship. I was very insulted, and wrote that as a sort of “fuck you”.'”
The 2012 song and record of the Year at the Grammy’s, “Rolling In The Deep” was described in an interview with Spin Magazine as a ‘gospel disco’ kiss-off to an unfaithful dude:
