今日Lyraが和訳する曲は、Kasabianの３枚目のスタジオアルバム2009年6月5日リリースの『West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum』からのシングル【Fire】(2009年6月1日リリース)。

“Fire” is a song by English rock band Kasabian and is the lead single from their third album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. It was released 1 June 2009. On the week of its release it debuted at number 3 in the UK Singles chart, making it their first UK Top 3 entry and their highest-charting single to date as well as their fourth UK Top 10 single. “Fire” also debuted at number one in Scotland, becoming Kasabian’s highest-charting single there as well. On the Australian ARIA Singles Chart, it debuted at number 44 peaked at number 41.

この人たち、立ち位置からしてLyraの大好物 Oasis オアシス と、Primal Screamがエレクトロになった時のサウンドを混ぜて、良い感じになったところで抽出したサウンドなのよ。

このちょうど良い王道Rockさんと効果的な Electronica が、持ち味のKasabianって希少価値な存在だ。

その中でもこの【Fire】はサイケデリックさが強い。

彼ら１バンドで、British Rock ブリティッシュロックの歴史を体現しているのだから、凄くない？

それも真似っこサイケデリックではなくて、オリジナルになっていて、ダンサンプルなエレクトロでもあるのだから、、、

有名なだけあり、インディーロックとカテゴライズされるが、本人たちは、何故かインディーロックを毛嫌いしていて、「そんなジャンルに当てはまらない」と文句をよく言っていた。

1997年の活動開始時はレスター郊外にメンバーで自給自足の生活をしながら同居もしていたkasabian。

一貫した個性的なサウンドを、コンスタントなアルバムリリースで発表し続けて来て、これまでに5枚のスタジオ・アルバムを発表。2010年にはブリット・アウォーズのベスト・ブリティッシュ・バンドを受賞している。

ライブアクトの賞を受賞するだけあり評価が高く、2014年にはグラストンベリー・フェスティバルのヘッドライナーを務め、不動の地位を築いている。

2004年のサマーソニックで初来日を果たし、新人バンドとしては異例の入場規制が敷かれた。その人気を受けて翌年はメインステージに出演している。 2007年のサマーソニックにも出演を果たし、一時期は日本でも期待の新人だったのだ。

【Fire】は、ミュージックビデオが銀行強盗をメンバーがしているため、バイオレンスや自由を求めるようなイメージを持ってしまう。

アフリカのケープタウンで撮影されたのが、嘘みたいな西部劇や映画「明日に向かって撃て！」のようなストーリー。

人によっては、前にこのブログで和訳した　【Breaking The Law / Judas Priest】 (和訳 Please Get Well Soon Rob Halford! ロブ・ハルフォード早く元気になってね)に、似ているビデオと言われているが、、、。

だが、これはLove ソングだ。

サイケデリックなサウンドにぴったり。

Lyraは、この歌詞を久しぶりに改めて聞いたら、「エロいわね」と思ったのと、作詞しているSergio Pizzornoが個人的に好きな作り方をしているので、見直しちゃったのだ。

上手いなSergio。

前に和訳した、【You’re In Love With A Psycho】(狂った愛の宴にようこそ！ 和訳 Lyrics)は、精神異常者のおかしなラブソングなのに、純愛ぼいエロソングで楽しかったし。

Sergioが、オモロイ顔をしているせいと(笑)、彼が使うワードがLyraのツボにハマるの。

だから楽しくて、ウケ狙いで和訳してしまいました。

この人、良い意味で「ど変態」だと思う。

良いわあ〜。

昨日和訳したDepeche ModeのMartin Goreの歌詞は時々「この人は、Lyraか？言ってることが身を蹴ずらるようにわかる！」となる数少ない人なの。

Martinの歌詞は芸術的で宗教色が強い「ど変態」な歌詞を書いて美しくて好きだが、Sergioは言葉を使って遊びながら「ど変態」しているのが、好み。

変わっていて面白く、良い作詞家だと改めて感じたから、益々、Kasabianが好きになったわ。

Fire was written by Sergio Pizzorno and is the 11th track on West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum album. It was released on 1 June 2009 as the first single off the album and peaked at #3 in the UK charts, making it Kasabian’s highest charting single so far.

On an episode of Sky Arts Songbook, Serge explained that “Fire”, the first song written for the album, was created from two different pieces of music, one written on acoustic guitar, the other on synth, sounding like Elvis and Kraftwerk respectively. He ended up putting them together, commenting that the song sounds like two bands elbowing each other off the stage. Tom described it as having “two split personalities: there’s a really calm and sexy person, the other one wants to fucking tear your head off.”

Apart from that, the song is about a person who lives his life on the edge, doing what his senses tell him to do, not holding back his instincts. In one moment he is sweet and easy-going, and in the other he’s a bit of a rebel, not caring about what it must look like to the others and how they feel about him. The “fire” imagery is a reference to the unstable, uncontrollable way that he is and acts, with all the meanings of the expression “I’m on fire” being mentioned.

The video for “Fire” is available to view on the band’s website, and is also available for purchase on iTunes. It was directed by acclaimed British director W.I.Z. and portrays a bank robbery gone wrong, with guitars taking the place of firearms. Near the end of this video, when Sergio Pizzorno throws the stolen goods against the wall, you can see that what they have stolen is actually sheets of music. The video is very similar to Judas Priest’s “Breaking the Law”.

The music video was filmed on location Cape Town, South Africa.

The song was featured in Callaway’s 2010 Super Bowl commercial. The song is the official song of the Premier League from the 2010–11 season up to the 2012–13 season. This meant the song (different segments of it) was present in most of the BPL Shows produced by Premier League Productions which was broadcast around the world. A purported remix of the song is still currently the theme tune of Kick Off, the show produced by PL Productions before the main Matchday Live coverage. The song is also currently used by the band’s home town team, Leicester City as goal music. It is also featured in the F1 2010 video game.

In October 2011, NME placed it at number 65 on its list “150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years”.
