忙しくて時期が少しずれましたが、先日 Noel Reddingのバースデイだったので、彼がバキバキっのイカス Groove を出しまくっていたJimi Hendrix Experienceの曲を和訳したので、一緒に盛り上がりましょう！
愛しのダーリン Jimi Hendrixの名前がついているだけあり(フロントマンでもあるから)、ExperienceでJimi がメインになってしまうのは当たり前なのですが、それに対抗出来る、と言うか、普通に渡り合えるのは、Noel のベースと Mitch Mitchellのドラムだったとずーっと Lyraは思っています。
勿論、Jimiありきの話だし、gypsiesだってプロ集団の集まりなだけあり、パーフェクトなのですが、ロックンロールという意味合いだと、共鳴し、時には揺らいだり、人間味のある「生きた」サウンドをだしていたNoelがいたExperience時代だと言いたい。
あの世界は、唯一無二のもの。だから、Noelがいなくなって Jimiが意気消沈した気持ちも凄く理解できます。
そのパーフェクトな時代のサウンドの中から、今日は、Noelがより張り切っている曲をプレゼントしましょう。

Electric Ladyland is the third and final studio album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience and the final studio album released in Hendrix’s lifetime before his death in 1970. Released by Reprise Records in North America on October 16, 1968, and by Track Records in the UK nine days later, the double album was the only record from the band produced by Hendrix. By mid-November, it had charted at number one in the US, where it spent two weeks at the top spot. Electric Ladyland was the Experience’s most commercially successful release and their only number one album. It peaked at number six in the UK, where it spent 12 weeks on the chart.

サイケデリックが流行していた当時の典型的な展開多めの構成が、特に際立った曲が、この【Little Miss Strange】だと思う。
Noel Reddingについて
この曲はNoel Reddingが書いたという説とJimi HendrixとNoelとの共作と言う説があるが、どちらにしてもJimiにはない、Noelの複雑なメロディラインが好きな特徴が出てる曲だと思う。
1966年10月に元Animalsの ベーシストのChas Chandler によってイギリスのロンドンで結成されたTheExperience。僅か３年弱の活動で、3枚枚のスタジオアルバムと4枚のトップ10シングルを生み出した当時のトップグループだと言っても良いだろう。
ここのベーシストが、イングランド、ケント州フォークストーン出身のNoel Redding ノエル・レディング (1945年12月25日 – 2003年5月11日）である。本来はギタリストだったが、Jimi Hendrix Experienceに加入と同時にベースを担当し、Jimi HendriExperience のベーシストとして世界的に有名になった。
9歳の時に学校でヴァイオリンを演奏。12歳頃にマンドリンを、14歳で初めてギターを演奏する。彼が初めて聴衆の前で演奏したのはハーヴェイ・グラマー・スクールのハイス・ユース・クラブであった。
彼は17歳でプロのプレイヤーとなる。
ニール・ランドン・アンド・ザ・バーネッツのメンバーとしてスコットランドとドイツをツアーして回った。
1966年末にアニマルズのギタリストのオーディションに出かけたが採用されず、チャス・チャンドラー（元アニマルズのベーシストで、ヘンドリックスのマネージャー）によってThe Experience のベーシストとして採用された。
それまでベースの演奏経験がなかったものの、即興演奏した【Hey Joe】（エクスペリエンスのデビュー曲）のセッションで、チャンドラーとヘンドリックスに腕を見込まれた。
「オーディションに出かけた初日に生まれて初めてベースを弾かされ、経費をもらって次の日にもう一度オーディションに出向いた際、前日に弾いた曲のコード進行を覚えていたのでジミに驚かれた」と語っている。
Noel Redingは、Neil Randon、 Jim Leverton、エリック・ディルトン等と共にファット・マットを結成しギターを担当している。
1969年にジミ・ヘンドリックス・エクスペリエンスを脱退（これでエクスペリエンスは解散）。その後もヘンドリックスとは友人関係を保ったという論評もあるが、エクスペリエンス在籍時からヘンドリックスと音楽的・人間的に衝突していたという説もある。
Experience解散後、アイルランドへ。Thin Lizzyシン・リジィやトラフィック、フィッシュとも共演,
また、1990年自伝『ジミ・ヘンドリックス – リアル・エクスペリエンス (Are You Experienced?)』（Carol Appleby共著の口述筆記）を出版。ヘンドリックスの人間性やバンドの内情、音楽業界への失望なども赤裸々につづられていた。
この本によると、レディングは1974年にエクスペリエンス時代のロイヤリティ放棄の契約にサインするよう迫られ、後には当時使用していたベースも売却せざるを得なくなった。エクスペリエンス時代の素材は以降リリースしないと言われ、ロイヤリティ買い切りとして10万ドルを受け取ったが、これは後のCD・DVD時代に行われたようなヘンドリックスの発掘音源等が頻繁に発売される以前のことである。レディングは死の直前までヘンドリックスの遺産管理団体に対し訴訟を準備していたと言う。
2003年にアイルランドの自宅で死去。
アルバム『Electric Ladyland』
『Electric Ladyland 』は、The Jimi Hendrix Experienceが1968年にリリースしたアルバムで、 Experience 名義としては3作目にして最後のアルバム。

このアルバムの５曲目がこの【Little Miss Strange】で、Jimiと過去の女性との複雑な関係をほのめかしている曲だ。
思うにアルバム全体に一貫したテーマがあり、歌詞に登場する女性は、好奇心旺盛で魔法のようである。 このトラックはNoel Redding がJimiと共同で作成したもの、とか、また彼自身だけで書いたとも言われているが、その多くは彼の曲【She’sSoFine】に由来しているため、Noel主導の作品な気がする。

Jimiは、彼の奇妙な広報活動で常に知られていた、、、、女関係だ。特に、後に【Foxy Lady】で敬意を表するキャシー・エチンガムとの関係がメインで、この奇妙な広報活動もこの曲の題材になっている。
ここで、Jimiは物語に彼自身の側面を与え、彼の過去の恋人を「Electric Lady 電気の女性」として説明している。
奇妙で、そして時々欺く行為を、キャシーはJimi が「経験豊富で想像力豊かな恋人であり、セックスをこれまでにないほどロマンチックにすることができる」ことを発見したと言っていた。
しかし、この翌朝には、カップルでいたにもかかわらず、ホテルで若いギタリストのデザインの仕事をした別の女性に邪魔されたらしい。
「彼女は朝11時ごろに部屋に飛び込み、叫び、罵倒し、彼をろくでなしと呼びました」とキャシーは言う。 「彼女はギターをつかみ、首で持ち上げ、私たちがベッドにいる間、私たちの頭にそれを降ろす準備ができていました。」なんとも恐ろしい修羅場を話しているが、当時のJimiには4人の彼女が居たらしいから、キャシーが彼女とは言い難いし、叫び声上げた女の人が怒り狂うように、他にも似た事件が多発したに違いない。
ロックスターに敬意を表した短い伝記でも、Jimiには4人の異なる恋人がいて、そのうちの何人かは後でツアー、彼の個人的な生活、そして彼の精神的健康を妨げると主張したのだった。
事実に基づいた歌詞は、Jimi自身によるものか？或いは、Noelが横目でチラ見にしていたJimiの女関係を書いたのか?
どちらにせよ、Jimiには数人女がいたと言うこと。
まあ、ロックレジェンドにありがちな話だから奇を衒ってはいないと思うし、サイケデリック・ロックが主流だった時代の音楽がめちゃくちゃ好きだった幼少期を過ごしたLyraには、慣れっこである。Jim MorrisonもPamがいたが、別に黒魔術に傾倒していたライターと影で結婚していたし、BrianもAnita Pallenburgと付き合うまでは、女性関係がとんでもなかったしね。
おまけに60’s のカルチャーはFree 〇をかがげていたから、そうじゃない人も、そうならざる追えなかった部分もあるのでは？
これらの文献を読み漁ったし、ビデオや映画も見まくって来たから、我ながら詳しいと思うし、詳しいせいで反面教師になり、凄く真面目な人間になったと思う。Jimiラブだけど、実際付き合う男性は真面目じゃないとダメなんだよね〜。
Jimiは、真面目じゃないとかNoelが遊んでるとか重要だとは、思わない。だいたい、生きていたとしても、実際に付き合う気ないから興味ないしね、って、天国にいる彼らが聞いたら笑っているだろう。
ただ良いサウンドに面白い歌詞が乗っかっているから、面白いのだ。だって超絶テクニシャンな３人が作り出す世界なんだから！
Jimiは、歌詞のような、ちょっとばかり奇妙な子を好きだったのか？
なんとなくJimiは、安らぎや、楽しい雰囲気を求めていただけな気がする。孤独を忘れるために。
どことなく甘えていただけではないか？
愛してほしかった母親がいない寂しさを抱えていて、それが爆発した気がする。
女性と言う、分からない存在。
それはJimiにとっては魔法のようなものであり、それを求めて生きていた。
きっと魔法のような愛に憧れ、母の愛と重ね合わせていたのではないか？
母の愛は、魔法のように自分を包んでくれる、、、そう願いながら。

The Jimi Hendrix Experience (often shortened to The Experience) was a band comprising guitarist/singer/songwriter Jimi Hendrix, bassist/backing vocalist/songwriter Noel Redding, and drummer/backing vocalist Mitch Mitchell. Formed in London, England in October 1966 by ex-Animals bassist Chas Chandler, The Experience were active for just under three years, a run which resulted in three successful studio albums and four top 10 singles.

“Little Miss Strange”, track 5 to Electric Ladyland, alludes to Hendrix’ complicated relationship with women in the past. It also continues the theme of curious and magical women that appear in lyrics throughout the album.and much of it derives from his song “She’s So Fine”.
Hendrix was always known for his strange and up and down public relationships – most notably with Kathy Etchingham, who he would later pay tribute to in “Foxy Lady”.
Here, Jimi gives his own side of the story, likely describing his past lovers as “electric women”; strange, and at times deceiving:
Etchingham discovered that Hendrix was an “experienced and imaginative” lover who could make sex more romantic than she’d ever known it before.
But the next morning, the couple were interrupted at the hotel by another woman with designs on the young guitarist.
“She burst into the room at about 11 in the morning, screaming, swearing and calling him a bastard,” Etchingham says. “She grabbed a guitar, lifted it by the neck and was poised to bring it down on our heads while we were in bed.”
Accnrding to a short biopic that paid homage to the rockstar, he had four different lovers, all of which some claimed would later interfere with touring, his personal life, and his mental health.
Jimi did, in fact, have many dreams and visions – some of which were caused by LSD, others brought upon by his own wild imagination. He would often write songs inspired by these dreams, such as “Purple Haze” and “Voodoo Chile”.
In a 1969 interview with NME, Jimi briefly discussed two dream-inspired tracks:
I dream a lot and I put my dreams down as songs. I wrote one called “First Look Around the Corner” (unreleased) and another called “The Purple Haze,” which was about a dream I had that I was walking under the sea.
Jimi was well known for his infatuation with the stars and cosmos, with an article published by NPR explaining his fascination with these beliefs, also mentioning that the concept and sound of “Purple Haze” was derived from a dream he had the night before recording it. That same dream may be being alluded to in these lines:
He explained later that the idea for the words to “Purple Haze” came to him in a dream after he had read a science fiction novel. Fans and critics have spent years trying to decipher the song’s meaning. Hendrix himself pointed to the one line at the end of the second verse: “Never happy or in misery / Whatever it is, that girl
put a spell on me.”
