地域を構成してるのは私達、人間だから(勿論、愛すべき動物や植物も含む)当たり前の発想なんだが。

北と南の寒暖差の違いがわかりやすいが、食べ物や周りの人達の人間性等等が要因だろう。

アメリカの東西がまさにそれ。

そりゃ例外はある。

ソーセージにメープルかけるのが好きな人もいれば、マヨネーズを何にでもかけちゃうみたいに(因みにLyraはTabascoさ〜)。

日本ではマイナーだが、欧米諸国では、世界ツアーや数々のフェスに出演する人気ロック・バンド。

ヒッポホップやポップスの影響が強いが、アンニュイでお洒落なビデオや、物憂げな歌詞や衣装をモノトーンにしたり、白黒の美学を多用したり個性的な活動をしているバンドである。

“Female Robbery” is the first song by American alternative band The Neighbourhood from their debut extended play (EP), I’m Sorry…. It was also featured on their debut studio album, I Love You.. It is the album’s ninth song and was released as the first single on October 8th, 2012 by Columbia Records.

かなりキツい内容の歌詞で胸が痛い。

DVやネグレクトされてる少女のミュージックがある意味、この歌詞の不特定を現実味を帯びたように説明しているかのようね。

見ていて気分が悪くなった方はごめんなさい。載せるか迷いましたが、ネイティブでもこの歌詞の意味が分からない人が多いので、MVがかなり補足してくれてることもあり、掲載することにしました。

「気にしなくて大丈夫」と言ってくださる方が多いのですが、念のため。

このアルバム『I Love You』はアメリカでかなり売れたアルバム。

それも曲の雰囲気と叙情的な内容の両方がしっかりマッチしていて、アルバム通して1つの美術品のように、一連の不安に満ちたテーマを貫いているから売れたんだとLyraは思っています。

Bryan Sammis は、Coup De Magazineに説明している、

「少なくとも音楽的な面では、俺たち全員が楽器を通して、自分の感情を引き出そうとしていると思う。これは必ずしも簡単とは言えないぜ？抒情的なJessie Rutherford ジェシー・ラザフォードは、俺が彼が本当に好きな所は、彼自身とバンドメンバーの俺たちについて、強制しようとしない所だ。彼の歌詞の多くが必ずしも事前に定まってるわけじゃないんだ。彼が最初に聴いた時は、歌詞が頭頂部から曲が落ちてきた感じだ。だって歌詞が自然で、それは彼が何を考えているのか、そして彼がその歌を聞いたときにどのように感じているのかを合法的に示しているんだよ。」

大ヒット【Sweater Weather】やこの【Female Robbery】などは、バンドのフワフワしたポップソングに入るだろう。

「魅惑的」な要素と人間関係に傷付けられた人の悲しみが表現された不思議な感覚だ。

カリフォルニア州ニューベリー・パーク出身の The Neighbourhood だからこそ、表現できるスタイルだと思う。

彼らの曲を聴きながら海沿いを走れば、どんな暗い歌も貴方の傷を舐めてくれるように、後ろへと風と一緒に流れて行くよ。

先程述べたように、彼らの音楽やビデオや衣装を、古典的白黒の美学のように多様しているのも、どす黒い人間の本質を少し綺麗にして嫌なイメージを和らげているのだと思う。

メンバーそれぞれ、彼らの特徴的なお家を逆さにした “逆さのハウスロゴ” のTattooをいれているのも一体感を出すためかもしれない。

とにかくJesseeのこだわりが強くて、皆んなも似た感覚があるから彼のアイデアに乗っかってバンドの方向性に迷いがなくまっすぐなのだ。

現在のメンバーは、Jessie ジェシーの他、Jeremy  Freedman ジェレミー・フリードマン、Zach Abels　ザック・ヒアーズ（ギタリスト）、Mikey Margott　マイキー・マーゴット（ベーシスト）、Brandon Fried  ブランドン・フリード（ドラマー） で、”NBHD”だ。

最近ニューアルバムをリリースしたので、また別の機会に紹介しましょう。

この歌詞を歌っているJessieが男性だから、彼はバイセクシャルでもあるし、可愛いキャラだから一人称を「僕」にしたほうが和訳を見に来てくださってる人々にわかりやすいかな？と思いましたが、歌詞の雰囲気が女性的にLyraが感じたのと、このMVを撮影したディレクター のDaniel Iglesias Jrがインタビューで、

「ジェシーがこの歌詞を書いたと言うのあって、基本的な話を私たちに説明してくれたんだ。この曲は、虐待的な家庭に閉じ込められた少女が、年上の女性が彼女を盗んで助けに来てくれること(救助してくれること)を祈っているんだ、と言っていたんだ」と語っていたこともあり、「私」と和訳しました。

かなり辛い思いをしている女の子は、Jessieのママの小さい時の話をモデルにしてると予想もできるので、彼のママの恐れや、救い出されたいと言う願いがリアルに伝わって来て良い曲ですが、キツい時がある。

それにJessieもリアルにパパにされていたことを明かしていたり曲にしているので、悲しい思いをしているTeenager達に響いているのだ。

誰かに分かって欲しい思いが詰まっている。

かなり悪化した人間関係を描くのが上手い。

だけどJessieは今はラブラブだからね。

人は分かり合える人に出会えたら救われる。

今辛くても、必ず会えるから。

あきらめないでね。

辛い時はお気に入りの場所に行ってお気に入りの曲を聴いて〜。

I Love You (stylized as I Love You.) is the debut studio album by The Neighbourhood, which was released worldwide on April 22, 2013.

The tracks on this album expresses a series of angst-ridden themes based on both the vibe and lyrical content of the songs. Bryan Sammis explained to Coup De Main magazine: “I think that at least in terms of the musical aspect of it, all of us try and get our own emotions out through our instruments, which is not always the easiest thing to do. I think for Jesse Rutherford lyrically, what I really like about him and about us as a band is that a lot of his lyrics aren’t necessarily pre-ordained, because he’s not trying to force it. A lot of his lyrics are off the top of his head when he first hears the song, because that makes it more natural, it’s legitimately what he is thinking about and how he is feeling when he hears that song.”

Irish Times critic Jim Carroll remarked that the band’s hooky pop songs, such as “Sweather Weather” and “Female Robbery”, can be “ravishing”, but felt that the album is weighed down by occasional “fillers”.

Video’s directors were Zack Sekuler and Daniel Iglesias Jr., a duo who often work together under the alias “ENDS.”

In an interview with youngdirectorwardwcom , Daniel Iglesias Jr–the director of the music video–talked about Jesse Rutherford’s intended meaning behind the lyrics:

Jesse wrote the lyrics and he explained the basic story to us: a little girl trapped in an abusive household who prays for an older woman to rescue her by stealing her away.

she is in a very bad place at home and wants to be taken away from it. She is taken away; but by bad people. She considers these people her “heros” from taking here away from the bad situation she was in before. She watches shows about police catching criminals and she knows her kiddnapers are felons and she know that the police will find her and the kiddnapers and she is afraid she will end up in the same situation she was in before. But in the end she ends up in a better family feeling loved by this one because the police found her and took her to a better place. But who is the band talking about? I believe it is the lead singers mother. He is retelling her story and how she ended up out of the situation. The lead singer’s father was abusive tward him as you can hear in the song “daddy issues” and the father eventually leaves his family and some how dies. So, we can probably interpret that the songs is the lead singers mother’s story
