【Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers/ Rebels】和訳 解説 愛と平等を勝ちとる為に To Win Love and Equality

I can Always feel your aerial feeling like seaside winds & blowing sand smells of America from  your great songs.Tom Petty R.I.P.

Tom

Chuck(Berry)の時も、Chris(Cornell)の時も、去年のGinger(Baker)の時も考えたし、辛かった。

=Rebels=

Honey, don't walk out, I'm too drunk to follow
You know you won't feel this way tomorrow
Well, maybe a little rough around the edges
Or inside a little hollow
I get faced with some things sometimes
That are so hard to swallow, hey!

I was born a rebel, down in Dixie
On a Sunday mornin'
Yeah with one foot in the grave
And one foot on the pedal
I was born a rebel, born a rebel

She picked me up in the mornin'
And she paid all my tickets
Then she screamed in the car
Left me out in the thicket
Well I never would've dreamed
That her heart was so wicked
Yeah but I keep coming back
'Cause it's so hard to kick it, hey, hey, hey

I was born a rebel, down in Dixie
On a Sunday mornin'
Yeah with one foot in the grave
And one foot on the pedal
I was born a rebel, born a rebel

Even before my father's father
They called us all rebels
As they burned our cornfields
And left our cities leveled
I can still feel the eyes of those blue-bellied devils
Yeah, when I'm walking round at night
Through the concrete and metal, hey, hey, hey

I was born a rebel, down in Dixie
On a Sunday mornin'
Yeah with one foot in the grave
And one foot on the pedal
I was born a rebel, born a rebel

I was born a rebel, down in Dixie
On a Sunday mornin'
Yeah with one foot in the grave
And one foot on the pedal
I was born a rebel, born a rebel

Hey hey hey

【Learning To Fly/ Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers】解説 Life’s Song 人生の歌

Live Aid

Tom

"Rebels" and Petty's broken hand

The track was recorded in 1984. It was during the recording of this track that Petty broke his hand. Petty remembers being so high on drugs that he couldn't get an arrangement he liked. Petty went into the control room, and put the original demo tape on, which featured just him and a Rickenbacker 12-string guitar. He believed that they had yet to record an arrangement better than this demo, which made him so furious that he stormed up the stairs into his house, and punched the wall, causing severe damage to his left hand. After a while, Tom Petty called Jimmy Iovine in to help him finish "Rebels" along with some other tracks on Southern Accents. Alan "Bugs" Weidel, Tom's roadie, considers "Rebels" a least favorite of his due to Petty's broken hand.

"Rebels” tells the sad story of a man whose alcoholism has dominated his life and strained his relationship with his girlfriend, which he blames on his “rebel” heritage to avoid taking responsibility for his own decisions. She is also stuck in a cycle of chastising him for his drinking and regularly walking out on him, but ultimately keeps coming back despite all of his problems.

The song (and album as a whole) is noteworthy because the Confederate battle flag was heavily used to market the release and tour, which led many Petty fans to bring the flag to concerts. Petty eventually put a stop to this practice by giving a speech during a concert in which he explained to the crowd that the flag was used to represent a specific character, and not his own views. He asked his fans to never bring a Confederate flag to his shows again because “that isn’t who we are.”

It’s a wild-eyed, desperate character Tom Petty conjured for “Rebels,” one who immediately takes center stage. The guy is out of his mind, out of money and the woman who’s endured him is out of patience.

In “Rebels,” Tom Petty’s protagonist explains how even before his father’s father, “they called us all rebels.” Some of those ancestors, positioned on the side of the Confederates in the Civil War, were likely as drained as President Lincoln. Forgiveness and reconciliation seemed in order. On the title song of the Southern Accents album, Petty presents another character, one who’s not so rebellious, but mindful of what makes him different from others. This character, for all the hardship he’s experienced, appears thankful for what he’s learned and ready for better times.
There’s a dream I keep having

Where my mama comes to me

And kneels down over by the window

And says a prayer for me

I got my own way of prayin

But everyone’s begun

With a southern accent

Where I come from–

The recording of “Southern Accents” by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers falls short of the spirit within the song. It’s over-produced. The song’s message gets lost in the clutter of the arrangement. But the great song caught the ear of Johnny Cash. He told Petty, “That should replace ‘Dixie.'” Petty replied with “Wow,” but Cash was serious, replying, “No I mean it, it’s a better song than ‘Dixie.'”
