今回もMachine Gun Kellyがニューアルバム・リリースに合わせて、お得意のコラボレーションをしたのだが、そのお相手が、な、な、なんと！EmoなバンドBring Me The Horizon のOli Sykesなんだぞ〜ん！

デスボも健在。まさかのあのBring Me The HorizonのVocalistが、Pop PunkソングをMGKと一緒にデュエットするという、異色のコラボとなりました。

歌詞は相変わらずのOliって感じで、エモい。今回はMGKが、Oli寄りに合わせた歌詞になっていて、なんとなく優しさ感じる、だってMGKも同じ牡牛座なんだもん、分かるわ〜。

Maybe is a single of the album Mainstream Sellout by american rapper &musician Machine Gun Kelly. Mainstream Sellout is the sixth studio album by Machine Gun Kelly, released on March 25, 2022, through Bad Boy Records and Interscope Records. It is his second collaborative project with drummer and producer Travis Barker, following 2020’s Tickets to My Downfall. The album was initially announced in August 2021 under the title Born with Horns, before being renamed in January 2022.

どちらかと言うと、お騒がせな女と付き合っていて困ってる歌か、元カノとより戻しそうだが色々ヤバいんだぜ、とか、現在進行形の恋愛を取り上げた歌詞を書きがちなMachine Gun Kellyなので、今回のお別れソングはOli Sykesが良く書くテーマ、、、と言うか社会問題を取り上げる以外は、ほぼ失恋ソングが多いため、この歌詞はOliがメインで書いたか、彼にMGKが合わせた感じがします。

どちらにしても、わざわざデスボを入れたりScreamoしてるし〜などなど、Oliの良さを無理矢理詰め込んだ Bring Me The Horizonに寄りそったPop Punkです。

アルバム「Mainstream Sellout』について

『Mainstream Sellout』は、アメリカのミュージシャンMachine Gun Kellyによる6番目のスタジオアルバム。2022年3月25日にBadBoyRecordsとInterscopeRecordsからリリースされ、 2020年の大ヒットアルバム 『Tickets To My Downfall』に続く、ドラマー兼プロデューサーの　Travis Barker トラヴィス・バーカーとの2回目のコラボレーションプロジェクトです。

因みにこのアルバムは、前にもお話しましたが、去年の夏、2021年8月時点では、『Born with Horns』というタイトルで最初に発表された後、2022年1月に名前が変更。本人達はTattooまで入れて気合い入れていたのに何だかな、と思いましたが、彼らはコレをネタにしてバカ笑いしていたから余りダメージはないようですね。

【Maybe】について

今回のシングルでは、ラッパーで歌手のMGKとイギリスのメタルコアバンド、Bring Me The Horizon の最初のコラボレーションになります。MGKの6番目のスタジオアルバムである今作からの4番目のシングル。

MVは、MGKと、エグゼクティブ・プロデューサーでもあるblink-182 のTravis Barker、そしてBring Me The Horizon の Oliver Sykes のトリオがパフォーマンスする映像となっています。

360度を見渡せるガラス張りの超高層ビルで、MGKのギターのアルペジオから演奏がスタートするので一瞬、しっとり系か?と思いきや、Travisのドラムにあわせた激しいギター、スクリーム、ジャンプなどで、次第にビルのガラスが割れていくと言うのが、シンプルながら手の込んだ出来栄えになってますね〜。

そして、3人のパフォーマンスのパワーで、砕かれたガラスは空へ舞い上がり、やがて太陽を遮ってしまう。外が暗闇に包まれても、最後まで変わらず激しいパフォーマンスを3人で続けていく〜と言うのが、何気にMGKがガンマンしている映画の影響かしら？と思ってしまうLyraでありんす ww 。雷のようなロックショーを提供するマスタークラス〜。

iTunesでは、急速に総合1位のアルバムとしてトップの座を獲得しています。また、深夜のリリース以来、Spotifyで1200万のストリームがあり、AppleMusicで総合2位のアルバムになるバカ売れをしているのは流石です。

コラボレーションについて

このアルバムは、ガンナ、ヤング・サグ、ブラックベア、イアン・ディオールなどのヒットメーカーのタッグが機能しているのを証明したような曲が沢山入っています。特にファンは、すでにアルバムのモンスターコラボレーションに恋をしているみたい。

先日取り上げた【Emo Girl】は、Willow とのコラボで、世界中で5000万のストリームを撮影しています。

Lil Wyne とのコラボ【ay！】に、今回のロックイノベーターのBring Me The Horizonと、Pete Davidson がアルバムの曲に登場しているのも魅力的ですね。

このリリースでは、アルバムのトラック用に14本の新しい歌詞ビデオがリリースされる予定で、すべてSimian.LAのKyle Coganが監督し、壁画家のRoshiと協力しています。

テキサス州オースティンで6月8日から始まるヘッドライニングアリーナツアーに着手する準備をしているMGKのライブをファンはこのアルバムでキャッチ出来るでしょう。

米国では6月から8月までの41日間に及び、2022年のロラパルーザフェスティバルでのMGKのヘッドライニングスロットもツアーに含まれていて、彼は9月と10月に15回のコンサートのためにヨーロッパに向かいます。

この曲は、2022年2月24日、MGKがレイトレイトショーで、『Mainstream Sellout』からリリースされていない2曲のスニペットを再生したときに最初に公開されました。

1曲はアルバムの3番目のシングル【ay！】で、もう1曲は【Maybe】であることを公表し、この曲で、ColsonのTwitterプロフィールで発表された後、2022年3月16日にリリースしたのです。

MGKとOli Sykesは、2022年3月4日にエモナイトLAで最初に一緒に曲を演奏しました。Oliは常にMachine Gun Kelly のポップパンク作品に敬意を表していました。

「彼の最初のポップパンクアルバム『Tickets ToMyDownfall』のリリース時から、 MGKがポップパンクアルバムをやっているのを見るとワクワクします。それは人々を私たちの世界に連れて行くでしょう。」 とOli Sykesは、MGKを絶賛していたのも仲良しで嬉しくなる〜。

歌詞について

初めの掛け声は、録音時にMGKは不貞腐れていたのか、

「 「1,2,3」にうんざりしているので、イントロで「2,3,5」と叫んだ」

と言っていたのが、笑えた〜。でも言われないと気にならない普通な掛け声なんだけど…(笑)。

歌詞のバタフライ効果とは、小さなアクションや変更が、より大きなシステムに、予想よりはるかな大きな影響と結果をもたらす可能性があるという概念のこと。、、、ここでのMGKの含意は、彼が数日前に行った小さな決定の影響が悪い感じでまだ残っている、感じているという意味です。別れた影響を言ってるんでしょうね。

2022年2月、MGKは『Taurus (おうし座)』と言う新しい映画について話していて、これは、自己破壊的なラップスラッシュロックスターの半自伝的物語になっている映画。

この映画では、彼のキャラクターは Nirvanaの　Kurt Cobaie の髪型に似た毛むくじゃらのブロンドの髪をしていているんですよ。これは、MGKが（実生活で）彼の内なる自己とつながるのに役立ったと彼は言っていました。

ようやく[髪の毛]の後ろに隠れるようになったとき、「誰ともアイコンタクトをとる必要がなかったので、俺の本当の自分の多くが見せることができたよ。エンターテイナーがどうあるべきかというプレッシャーに屈するのではなく、俺はただ孤立して、実際に何が起こっているのかを紹介する必要があったんだ。 」Machine Gun Kelly は、こう話していた、、、。

だからこの歌詞中での数カ所や、アルバム『Mainstream Sellout』のテーマと一致しているのでしょう。特にこの歌詞は、Oli Sykesのいつもの失恋ソングだが、MGKが主演した映画への参照である可能性も高いのです。

 

 

でもゲストのOlie に合わせることを忘れずにしていること、単に聴いてる者達を楽しませることも意図しており、彼の本当の自分を反映はしていないと思います。あくまでもOlieと映画の主人公に近づかせる方が、重要だったのかもしれませんね。

あと歌詞を聞いていてLyraがニヤッとした所は、「sid＆nancy」と同様の言葉を使用している所！「10まで数えて、俺が死ぬかどうかを確認して」という所です。Sid And Nancyが好きな人にはニヤリとするセリフです。そう悲恋と言える悲しい歌詞なんですね、荒々しい怒りにも思える口調なんですが、Olieの前のあの人ネタの悲しい曲たちを思い出しました。

あとサビの部分などは、MGK が依存症に陥ったことで罪を感じている間、これが彼の最後の飲酒であると、自分に言い聞かせている歌詞なんです。

まるで映画やドラマで良くある、女と別れて酒を飲みまくっている場面だな、、、きっとガンマンが両扉があるバーでウイスキーや密造酒を飲んでる感じかもね。

失恋に悲しんでるMGKも痛々しくてまた違った感じでファンを喜ばせるでしょう。

憂いのある瞳で跪かれたら堪らんね。OlieとMGKのステキなコラボレーション。

Emoと Pop Punkの融合は、様々な苦しみを乗り越え、幸せを手にしてパワフルに生き抜く源となるに違いない。

The first collaboration between rapper and singer Machine Gun Kelly and British metalcore band Bring Me The Horizon, “maybe” is the fourth single off of Machine Gun Kelly’s sixth studio album, mainstream sellout.

The song was first revealed on February 24th, 2022, when Machine Gun Kelly played snippets of two unreleased songs from his upcoming album on The Late Late Show, one of the songs being the album’s third single, “ay!”, and the other song being “maybe”.

The second of the two snippets was this song, called “Maybe” which has been released later on March 16, 2022 after an announcement on Colson’s twitter profile.

MGK and Oli Sykes, the lead singer of Bring Me The Horizon who provides vocals on “maybe”, first performed the song together at Emo Nite LA on March 4, 2022. Oli Sykes has always shown respect for Machine Gun Kelly’s pop-punk work since the time of the release of his first pop punk album, Tickets To My Downfall.

mainstream sellout is quickly usurping the competition on iTunes, climbing the top spot as the No. 1 overall album. It has also 12 million streams on Spotify since its midnight release and is the No. 2 overall album on Apple Music. An exclusive CD version is available only at Target and features an alternative album cover and an extra track.

MGK’s album release adds to what’s already been a wildly successful start to 2022 for the cross-genre hitmaker. The butterfly effect is a concept in which small actions or changes can have much larger impacts and consequences on a larger system. Machine Gun Kelly’s implication here is that he is still feeling the effects of small decisions he made days ago.

In February 2022, Machine Gun Kelly talked about his new movie called “Taurus”, the semi-autobiographical tale of a rap-slash-rock star on the tail-end of a self-destructive kick.

In this movie, his character has shaggy blonde hair  similar to Kurt Cobain’s hair, which he said helped him (in real life) connect with his inner self.

When I finally got to hide behind [the hair], a lot more of my real self was able to show ‘cause I didn’t have to make eye contact with anybody. I just got to be insular and showcase what was really going on inside instead of succumbing to the pressure of what an entertainer is supposed to be.

These lines could be a reference to the movie in which he starred in, coinciding with the theme of his mainstream selloutalbum in which he sends the message that the public misunderstands his role as the entertainer he’s pressured to be, vilifying him for some of his actions which are simply meant to entertain and not reflect his true self.
