Harryの歌詞は独特の世界観があるから大好き。エロいからって言うのもあるけど。
好きな理由は、ネイティブでも普通の人が聞くと普通のヒットソングだが、Lyraみたいな深読みが趣味みたいな人達には、本当の意味が分かり「ムフフ」となる点が魅力なの。
歌詞なんてどうでも良いと言う人が多いから、分からない人には分からなくて良いし、知りたい人だけ喜べば良い、と言うのが良い。Harryも、このスタイルなのかも知れぬ…もしくは検閲を掻い潜る作家の気持ちか？

今日Lyraが和訳＆解説するのは、イングランド出身のシンガーソングライター、俳優のHarry Edward Styles ハリー・エドワード・スタイルズ（1994年2月1日 – ）。

イギリスのボーイズグループ、One Directioワン・ダイレクションのメンバーとしてデビュー。
2010年4月11日、母親の勧めで出演したイギリスのテレビ番組 The X Factor の第7シリーズのソロコンテストに出場し、勝ち抜いて行き5人組のボーイズグループ One Directionとして2012年デビュー。
その後ソロに転向。2016年にソロデビューアルバムをリリースし、数々のヒット曲を作り出しているアーティストである。

“Falling” is a song by English singer and songwriter Harry Styles. This ballad was released through Erskine and Columbia Records on 7 March 2020 as the third single from his second studio album, Fine Line (2019). The song was written by Styles and Kid Harpoon, the latter of whom also handled the song’s production.

製作について
前にもこの【Falling】が収録されているアルバム『Fine Line』の曲を5曲ほど和訳＆解説して来たので、説明が重複してしまうと思うが、このアルバム全体通して失恋モードのHarryが全開な為、この曲も同じく元カノへのまだあるHarryの恋心を歌ったラブバラードなのである。それも今回はストレートに強めな感情。
このバラードは、2020年3月7日にアースキンとコロンビアレコードから2枚目のスタジオアルバム『Fine Line』（2019）の3rdシングルとしてリリース。
作詞作曲は、Harry StylesとThomas Hull の共作で、Harryは、「Tom (Thomasの事)は何かを得る為にぼくのところに来ていたんだ。そして彼はピアノの前に座っていて、僕はちょうどシャワーから出て来たところで、彼は演奏を始めたんだ。そして僕たちは、そこでそそれ(曲)を書いたのさ。だから、その曲を書いたとき、僕は全裸だったんだよ」と面白いエピソードをRolling Stoneに話していた。
Harryとソングライター/プロデューサーのKidHarpoonは、セルフタイトルのデビューアルバム『Harry Styles』(2017）で、【Carolina】と【SweetCreature】の2曲を共同で制作していたので羞恥の間柄と言うのも良かったのかも？彼は、後にHarry の最初の世界ソロツアーの音楽監督にもなる人だ。
この2nd アルバムに取り組んでいる間、2019年5月15日にKid Harpoon と一緒に新しい音楽に取り組んでスタジオ入りした。HarryとアルバムのレコーディングプロセスについてKid は、「彼に大きな影響を与えたことがあった。」と話している。
そしてKidは、それに対するHarry自身の気持ちについて書くように提案したと言う。「君が書いているこれらの曲にそれを入れることだよ」と。
特に【Falling】については、先程のシャワーから出て来たHarryの素っ裸エピソードを話しているので、2人のギャグネタになっているのかもしれない(笑)。
この時、シャワーから出て来て、彼を待っている間にピアノを弾き始め、彼が歌い出来上がるのに1時間で書き上げたらしいから、かなりのスピード速いのでは?
出来上がると、2020年3月7日に英国の成人向けコンテンポラリーステーションへ最初にリリースしたらしい。やはりアダルト向けなのだww。

ベッドの上で、思い倦ね類Harryの姿が目に浮かぶ。
この状況から孤独をテーマにしているのがわかるだろう。
孤独については、Harry が初期の頃から書いていること。特に、2人がベッドを共有するカップルで親密な状態に達した後、彼自身1人で目覚めるという特定の感覚も意味している。
このタイプの歌詞は、彼が共同執筆のクレジットを持っている未発表の「Don’t Let Me Go」で最初に見られ、2011/2012年からのものだ。

歌詞について Lyrics
この曲は、【Falling】のように非常に献身的に依存しているパートナーに宛てている。
一人で寝るのにうんざりしている主人公。これは、別の未発表トラック【Half theWorldAway】にも続くテーマだ。
デモは2020年8月にYouTubeにリークされたが、ワン・ダイレクションのアルバム『TakeMeHome』のリリースに近い2013年からのものであると噂されている。「俺は今夜一人で寝るつもりです、同じになることは決してありません」、「君は世界の半分離れているからです」と言う歌詞が状況も内容的にも同じ。
数年後、Harry Styles のデビューアルバムで、【From The dining Table】に再び登場している。 このホテルの部屋で一人で目が覚めたのだ。
ゼイン・ロウとのインタビューで、【Falling】が表す感情について説明している。「自分がなりたくない人になり始めたと感じ始めたけど、それは本当に大変だったんだ。 」とHarry…自己嫌悪に陥ってしまいそうな自分と言う意味だろう。Lyraはてっきりあの人かと思った。Lyraの好きなあの人。
Harryは、この悲痛なバラードで彼の苦しみを生き生きと蘇らせている。痛々しいくらいに。
『Fineline』の前のトラックからのテーマを利用して、彼はリスナーが以前のトラックに存在する高値の場所から、彼と一緒に落ちることを可能にしているのだ。【Watermelon Sugar】や【Adore You】など明るいラブソングから。
痛みを和らげるためにアルコールに頼ることは、【From the Dining Table】を彷彿とさせる。さらに、この歌詞の「俺のさまよう手」は、何らかの形の不正行為が行われたことを意味しているみたいだ。彼女を思い出しながら、、、してしまう。
StylesとそのプロデューサーであるKidHarpoonによって書かれた「Falling」は、4分間続く「静まり返った」ソウルピアノバラードだ。
インタビューの中で「この曲は叙情的に古いやり方に戻り、二度となりたくない人になり、より良い人になろうとしている」とコメントしている。Radio.comのインタビューでHarry Stylesは、【Falling】は「そのような圧倒された感覚で、時々溺れているように感じることができることを知っている…そしてそれがピアノから来ているという事実、それはこれらの曲を書くことは助けになるだけでなく、時にはあなたを傷つけることもあるのだ。タブロイドの見出しみたいに」。
他の歌詞で「俺は、君ついて余りにも多くの曲を書いていることをよく知っています。」と書いているが、これは事実でこの曲も然り、アルバム自体が元カノのことを歌っているのだから。

歌詞の中に出てくる Beachwood Cafeは、ロサンゼルスに実際にあるアメリカンカフェです。【Fineline】の執筆過程で、Harrはほとんどの時間をロサンゼルスで過ごし、2018年10月20日にカフェでさえ発見もされている。
Harryのこの歌詞の元カノについての解説は、上のリンクから読んでいただきたい。ここでは、チラッとだけ簡単に。この女性は、フランス系アメリカ人モデルのCamille Roweなのだが、彼女もこのカフェのファンであり、2018年9月のインタビューで、ビーチウッドカフェへの訪問が彼女の「ロサンゼルスでの理想的な日」に入っていると明らかにしているので、2人のデート場所、又は待ち合わせ場所だったのだろう。
「太陽が登って目を覚まし、BeachwoodCaféまで歩いて卵とコーヒーで乾杯をした後、友達に家に来て泳いでもらいました。私は太陽の下で本を読み、ボーイフレンドと一緒に夕食を作り、ソプラノスを見ました。 」
このボーイフレンドが、Harryなのである。
Camille とのその他のいくつかのつながりは『Fineline』でなされており、彼女の声はアルバムの前の曲【Cherry】でもフランス語で録音されたボイスメールが挿入されているからファンの人達は、聴いてヤキモキしたかも知れない。まあ、興味ない人にはどうでも良い話かも知れないが、知らない人の為に。
Harryには、このブログでお知らせしたように新恋人がいる。今までの歴代彼女とは違って、落ち着いた感じな気がするが、タイプが違うけど気の強そうな感じ等等、性格は似ていそうw。
個人的には俳優やってるとか、芸能人やバンドやってるとか興味が全くないから、一喜一憂してる人や、推しが命と言う人が羨ましい。熱中出来るのって素晴らしい。
ただ「また別れたのね〜」とか「あら、新しい人？」と騒ぐのが好きなの。ミーハーと言われてOK、だって楽しいのが1番だから。
仲良しと一緒にベッタリしているのが1番楽しいのだが、話が合う人達と情報交換したり、良いもの、素敵な音楽などを教え合うのが好きなんです。だから、皆んなと話せたり、感想を聞かせてくれるのが、3度の飯より好物なのだっ！
まあ、たまに良い音楽や感動的なストーリーで泣いたりする、真剣に。そして自分の文章で、書きながら泣いたりもする。
このHarryの「君を愛しているよ、忘れられない〜」の歌詞もそう。
彼の恋愛話を知っているだけに(Camile関連も知ってるから)、リアルに映像まで見えて来て、自分の昔のこと(現在のことも、ウフッ)の出来事を想いださせられてしまうし、、、Harryに激似だっだから余計に思い出してしまったわ(Lyraは、現在話も昔もわからないように書いてるからね〜、わかる人には、わかるし分からない人には分からないようにしています。)。と言っても、振ってしまって申し訳ないと言う気持ちだけで、何の気持ちもないのでごめんなさいって感じ。(追記: 心配してくれてありがとう、みなさん優しい〜。)
やっぱり歌詞って大事だと思いますね〜。まあ、分かり合えない人には、分からなくて良いし、Harryもそんな感じだから共感してしまうのかもしれません。
自分の思いを自分らしく、嘘偽りなく吐き出す。それだけで良い。

In an interview with Zane Lowe, Harry describes the feeling “Falling” represents:
I had started to feel myself becoming someone I didn’t want to be, and that was really hard.
Harry brings his agony to life in this heartbreaking ballad. Drawing on themes from preceding tracks on Fine Line, he allows the listener to fall with him down from the highs present in earlier tracks
such as “Watermelon Sugar” and “Adore You.”
Speaking to Zane Lowe from Beats 1, Styles spoke on how the song came about,
I was showering and he [Tom] was playing on the piano, and as I came out of the shower he was playing the “dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun” [chorus]. I went and stood next to him at the piano – just in a towel, we kinda just wrote the whole thing.
When asked by Lowe how long the song took to make, Styles replied:
probably 20 minutes.
Lowe finished by asking Styles – “What do you think you were saying in that song listening back to it now?”
The chorus says like “What am I now? Am I someone I don’t want around?” – it was a big moment where I was kind of asking myself – “What am I doing?” I kind of started to feel threads of where I could see myself becoming someone that I didn’t want to be.

Loneliness is something that Harry has been writing about since early days, especially the particular feeling of waking up on his own, after having reached a point of closeness in a couple in which the two share a bed.
This worry was first seen in the unreleased “Don’t Let Me Go”, in which he has co-writing credits and it’s supposed to be from 2011/2012. The song also could be addressed to a partner to who Harry was very devoted and dependent, similar as here in “Falling”:

The motif continues in another unreleased track, “Half the World Away”. The demo was leaked onto YouTube on August 2020, but it’s rumored to be from 2013, close to the release of One Direction’s album “Take Me Home”.

Years later, now in Styles’ debut album, it appears again in “From the Dining Table”:

Tom had come up to my place to grab something, and he’d sat at the piano and I’d just got out of the shower. He started playing, and we wrote it there. So I was completely naked when I wrote that song.”

Styles and songwriter/producer Kid Harpoon first worked together on Styles’ self-titled debut album (2017) on two songs: “Carolina” and “Sweet Creature”. He would also become later the music director of Styles’ first world solo tour. While working on his second album, Styles was seeing in the studio working on new music with Harpoon on 15 May 2019. While talking about Styles and the recording process of the album, Harpoon claimed: “He’s got this wise-beyond-his-years timelessness about him. That’s why he went on a whole emotional exploration with these songs. He went through this breakup that had a big impact on him.” Harpoon then suggested Styles to write about his feelings towards it, saying:” He had a whole emotional journey about her, this whole relationship. But I kept saying, ‘The best way of dealing with it is to put it in these songs you’re writing.'” Regarding “Falling” in particular, he told: ” Harry lives round the corner from me in LA and one day he wanted a lift somewhere, so I popped up there and he was getting out of the shower. I started playing piano while I was waiting for him, he was singing and in an hour we had written ‘Falling’.” The song was eventually released as the album’s third single on 7 March 2020 to UK adult contemporary stations.
Written by Styles and its producer Kid Harpoon, “Falling” is a “hushed” soul piano ballad, that runs for four minutes long. In an interview Styles commented that the song was lyrically about slipping back into old ways, becoming a person he didn’t want to be again and trying to be a better person. In an interview with Radio.com, Styles states that “Falling” is, “That feeling of kind of being overwhelmed, you know you can feel like you’re drowning sometimes… and the fact that it’s coming from the piano, I guess it’s like writing these songs are what helps but also they can hurt you sometimes.” According to Laura Snapes from The Guardian, “the line, ‘no one to blame but the drink in my wandering hands’, from Falling, has prompted tabloid headlines.” In another line, he sings: “I’m well aware I write too many songs about you.” In fact, the song was said to be written about his breakup with ex-girlfriend Camille Rowe. Hannah Mylrea from NME also noted that “he alludes to the fact he cheated on his ex, admitting that ‘there’s no one to blame but the drink and my wandering hands.”
Beachwood Cafe is an American cafe, located in Los Angeles. During the writing process for Fine Line, Harry spent most of his time in Los Angeles, and was even spotted at the cafe on October 20, 2018.
Harry’s ex, French-American model Camille Rowe, was also a fan of the venue, revealing in a September 2018 interview that a visit to Beachwood Cafe would be included in her “ideal day in L.A.”:
I’d wake up with the sun and walk down to Beachwood Café for some eggs and toast, and then have friends come over to my house to swim. I’d read in the sun, cook dinner with my boyfriend, and watch the Sopranos.
Several other connections to Camille have been made on Fine Line, with her voice even featured on the album’s prior track “Cherry”, in a voicemail recorded in French.
During the writing process for Fine Line, Harry and his then-girlfriend Camille Rowe parted ways after dating for a year. Producer Kid Harpoon revealed that the break-up took its toll on Harry, and his emotions made their way into his songwriting:
He had a whole emotional journey about her, this whole relationship. But I kept saying, ‘The best way of dealing with it is to put it in these songs you’re writing.’
This idea is discussed in album-mate “Golden”, where he recalls the early stages of a relationship:
