Brian’s  work is held in the permanent collections of the Arts Council, British Council, Victoria and Albert Museum and National Portrait Gallery, London.

ブライアン・グリフィンは1948年4月13日にバーミンガム生まれ。英国ミッドランド地域のブラック・カントリー[の町ライで育ち、ヘイルソーウェン技術学校に通学。 16歳の時、見習い製図技師として工場で働き始めました。彼はその後数年間、英国鉄鋼公社のエンジニアリング部門で働き、最初はコンベアを製造、その後原子力発電所の配管を製造して設置する仕事を主にしていました。地元のカメラクラブに参加した後]、グリフィンは（同時代のダニエル・メドウズ、ピーター・フレイザー、マーティン・パーとともに）マンチェスター美術学校で写真を学び、マンチェスター工科大学を彼は1972年に卒業しています。

大学卒業後は、ファッション写真家として働くためにロンドンに移り、レスター・ブックバインダーの勧めで、ビジネス雑誌『マネジメント・トゥデイ』、そしてその後は『会計時代』、『コンピューティング、マーケティング』などの他の出版物の企業写真家としての仕事に就いた。彼の 1974 年の写真「ロンドン橋のラッシュアワー」は全国的に知られるようになり、その版画は現在ヴィクトリア アンド アルバート博物館に所蔵されています。 1980年代までに、グリフィンは企業写真の専門家として認知されました。

ブライアン・グリフィンの作品はどれもクールで素敵ですが個人的にLyraは、Brian Griffinの1980年代からの写真が好きです。それも、Lyraがこのブログで良く取り上げている Depeche Modeや Iggy Pop や、Echo & The Bunnymen, Billy Idol (AMH【1984】 などなど1980年代を代表するポップアーティストやミュージシャンの作品は、憂いを帯びていて素晴らしいです。

他にも、The Jam や、Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Siouxsie Sioux, Kate Bush, Ultravox, R.E.M., Billy Idol, Ringo Starr, Queen and Peter Gabrielなどの作品がありますよ。

Brian Griffin was born in Birmingham on 13 April 1948. He grew up in Lye, a town in the Black Country, an area of the British Midlands, and attended Halesowen Technical School. At age 16, he began working in a factory as a trainee draughtsman.He spent the next few years working in engineering for the British Steel Corporation, first making conveyors and later manufacturing and installing pipework in nuclear power stations. After joining a local camera club, Griffin studied (along with contemporaries Daniel Meadows, Peter Fraser and Martin Parr) photography at Manchester School of Art, which became part of Manchester Polytechnic whilst he was there and from which he graduated in 1972.

Shocking to hear of another talented artist passing away. Rest in peace, Brian Griffin.Brian Griffin.R.I.P.
