でもね、聴けば聴くほどメッセージが刺さって来てね〜何だかいても立っても居られないの。
なぜならAnthonyが書いた歌詞には、愛が溢れてる。それこそ『Unlimited Love』だ。それも隣人に対する愛から自然界へ、この星全体へ。

“Black Summer” is a song by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers and is the first single from their upcoming twelfth studio album, Unlimited Love. It was noted as the first song released with John Frusciante since his return to the band, making it the first song with him in 16 years.

バンドが独自のウェブサイトに掲載した声明によると、アルバムはバンド全体と個別の両方を表していると言う。おそらく、このシングルはベーシストのFleaの側面を表している。
彼はオーストラリア出身であり、曲は2019年から2020年にかけて国を荒廃させた「ブラックサマー」山火事を見て自国の危機に心を痛めたに違いない。
詳しい解説: 歌詞について
冒頭でも書いたが、この【Black Summer】は、ここ数年の間に起きた災害や災難を言及した曲だ。Anthonyは、2019年6月から2020年5月の間に推定1,800万ヘクタール（約4,600万エーカー）の土地を燃やしたオーストラリアの山火事について歌っている。

「火葬」のワードは、何だか物騒にも感じる人がいるだろう。これは、この火事が森林や田園地帯全体を破壊し、30億頭の動物に危害や死をもたらしたことであり、このブログで写真と共に少し書いたので覚えている読者の方も多いと思う。だからあの制御されていない山火事の恐怖を表すために、これは適切に選択された言葉と言えるだろう。

個人的に感じたのだが、オーストラリアのこの山火事は、人間が引き起こした気候変動によるものであることを意味しているのため、人間の愚行を批判していると言えると思う。

より詳しい解説:上級
Anthony は、曲全体で繰り返されるテーマであるブラックサマーの山火事が、カモノハシの自然生息地とその種の総数をどのように危険にさらしたかについて言及している。水を楽しむカモノハシだが、科学界の研究者は、カモノハシの数が報告されているよりも少ない可能性があることを懸念している。技術的には危険とは見なされていないが、この動物は人間の拡大により生息地が破壊されているため、その数は大幅に過大評価されている懸念もある。つまり実際の個体数が少ないと言うことだ。

鞭の歌詞のところは分かりにくいと思う。鞭は、人々を検閲するために使用されるだけでなく、より速く加速するために馬に乗る人々によっても使用されている。(これは後に続く歌詞「頭のない馬に乗る」にも繋がる言葉だ)。言い換えれば、社会としての私たちの目標は前進することだが、文字通り燃えている鞭を使用した結果を考えずに、燃えるような鞭を持った頭のない馬でそれを行っているとAnthonyは言いたいのだと思う。
何故なら、森が破壊され世界が焼け落ちても、私たちは同じ鞭を割って、どこにも向かわない同じ馬に乗っているようなものでしょう？ 残念ながら、私たちは種としての運命を支配していると思っていても、この破壊的な鞭を手に持って自分自身、そして私たちの世界までをも燃やしてしまっているのだから！

Anthonyは、歌詞が進んでいくにつれ個人的な見解へと移っている。Anthonyは、愛する人を失うことへの恐れや、年をとるにつれて新しい友達を作ることが難しくなることを恐れて、新しい友情を築くのに苦労していることについて語っているのだ。

ただこの時に、この時代に貴方に会えて良かった。そう思える人や音楽や自分の生き方をサポートしてくれる人達に出会えて本当に幸せ。勿論、Red Hot Chili Peppersとの出会いにも感謝だ。

A reference to a 2016 TV series documentary, Secret Life of the Kangaroo.
The Black Summer bushfires brought risks for Australia’s wildlife. Kangaroos and koalas, for example, had to receive help from ambientalists and volunteers. More than 3 billion animals died or were displaced during the bushfires.
Red Hot Chili Peppers break an almost six-year long pause with the eco-centered “Black Summer,” the lead single from their twelfth studio album, Unlimited Love.
Acording to a statement, the band put on their own website, the album is meant to represent the band both as a whole and individually: most likely, this single represents a facet of bassist Flea, as he’s of Australian origins and the song focuses on the “Black Summer” wildfires that devastated the country throughout 2019 and 2020.
As we embark into this new era of the band, we’re just so grateful for the opportunity to be playing with John Frusciante again: for all of us, is just beautiful. We’re able to connect in a very profound way, and I think that all four of us share an appreciation for that connection in a way that we might never have been able to share before. Sometimes you have to go through time to really appreciate things. The power of humility and the power of having faith in one another, the power of trusting and letting go, and letting the cosmic light flow through, is very powerful indeed.
The band is really excited about stuff. The recording of the music, the composing of the music, the talking to one another in the context of making new music is something that’s very sacred to us and very private, and we don’t share it with anybody. We just get by ourselves in a room and we connect with one another. When we finally get to the point where we all agree that it’s done, and we put it out, it’s no longer ours.

Kiedis sings about the 2019-2020 Australian bushfire season which has burned an estimated 18+ million hectares (~46 million acres) of land between June 2019 and May 2020. These devastating fires have been dubbed “Black Summer”. Bass player Flea is from Australia and frequently visits his homeland and intends to retire there.
Adding more context to the historical events in the song and speaking to classic anxieties about competition between Western and Eastern civilizations, this is likely referencing the Chinese rover moon landing in January 2019:
What’s more, the line hearkens back to a lyric from one of their most popular songs, Californication:
“Psychic spies from China try to steal your mind’s elation.”
Is the new focus supposed to make one take the “East-West competition” notion more or less seriously? RHCP leave that up to the listener, as is often the case.
Possible parallel meanings could also be in reference to the controversy surrounding China’s “dark” treatment of the Uighur people, or controversy blaming the Chinese authorities for the COVID-19 outbreak. In this sense, the Chinese government is on the “dark side” of such issues.
PROPOSED SUGGESTION: I think it isn’t quite right to say „Kiedis is…“ because the lyrical I does not equal the song‘s author or the singer.
“A sky which refuses to cry” is a metaphor for the missing rain and thus the severe drought it provokes. Drought is the main cause of wildfires, though heat and especially strong winds are exacerbating factors.
The line “dressed like noon” refers to the light of the flames which illuminate the night sky and create a resemblance to the daytime.
“Cremation” is an aptly chosen word to depict the horror of uncontrolled wildfires which destroyed forests, entire countrysides and caused harm or death to three billion animals.
Anthony mentions how the Black Summer bushfires, the recurrent theme throughout the track, endangered Platypus’ natural habitat and total number of members of their species.
A reference to Greta Thunberg, who is a Swedish environmental activist who is known for challenging world leaders to take immediate action for climate change mitigation.
Implying that the wildfires in Australia (nicknamed ‘Black Summer’) are because of the human caused climate change.
Both Helena and Blackie were “archers”, (Sagittarius sun sign). So is Cupid 💘
Elvis Presley sang the gospel hymn “no one stands alone” and “behind the sun” is possibly a reference to their song “Behind the Sun”, but It is also a figure of speech referring to someone who is deceased.
Anthony talks about his struggle to create new friendships due to his fear of losing people he loves or that making new friends becomes more difficult as you get older, as Anthony Kiedis said in an interview where he talks about how he looks at his son and sees him making friends easily, but for Anthony himself that is a particularly complicated matter.
His fear of new friendships can be justified by the grief surrounding Hillel Slovak’s death. The passing of their beloved friend, guitarist and founding member of the band gave origin to Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ sad anthem, “Under the Bridge”, released three years after Slovak’s passing.
The line could also mean Anthony personally finds love and comfort in old friends, as a way of welcoming back John Frusciante, who left the band officially in 2009, and came back 10 years later, replacing Josh Klinghoffer, a close friend of the band and Frusciante.
Not only referring to the Black Summer wildfires in Australia, the meaning of the name “Black Summer” diverges from the Australian situation as a way of depicting the tough times humanity has faced throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic. So many deaths and problems in a short period of time made it seem like a short but extremely sad period in history: a “Black Summer”.
The band specifically waited until 2022 to begin their tour and to release Unlimited Love. They want to spread love during a time of healing after all of the craziness of these past two years.
