昨日も話したけれど、4月5月はBirthday Festivalって感じに、自分の誕生日を始め、大好きなアーティストの誕生日目白押しなのだ〜。
今日はNoelのお祝いを兼ねて、普通ならばOasisをやりたい所だが、彼のソロワークをそろそろやらないと、イカンと思い、Noelが現在行ったいるソロの作品から、面白いMusic Videoも良い感じの曲を、和訳＆解説しちゃいましょう！
Noelのソロの作品って、Oasisと真逆よね。

今日Lyraが和訳＆解説するのは、イングランド、マンチェスター出身のシンガーソングライター、ギタリストである Noel Gallagher ノエル・ギャラガー (本名 Noel Thomas David Gallagher ノエル・トマス・デヴィッド・ギャラガー 1967年5月29日 – ) 。
ロックバンド、Oasis オアシス の元ギタリスト兼ボーカリストである。
Oasisの曲は、ほぼNoel が務めていたこともあり、ソングライティングの能力も世界的に認められているアーティストだと思う。
代表曲【Don’t Look Back In Anger】作曲するだけでなく、ヴォーカルも務めたりし、数々の名曲ヒットソングを書いて、Oasis世界的ロックバンドに成長させた。
今日Lyraが和訳する曲は、Noelが2009年8月Oasis脱退後、2011年10月より始めた Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birdsの1st ソロアルバムからのシングル【A.K.A… What a Life!】。

“AKA… What a Life!” is a song by the English rock band Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. The song was written by Noel Gallagher and was released through Gallagher’s own label, Sour Mash Records and produced by Dave Sardy whom Noel had previously worked with on Oasis records.

人によっては賛否両論ありそうなミュージックビデオだが、結構、良い感じだと思う。
だってOasisのMVって曲のクオリティに反して、イマイチな作品が多いから。
このミュージックビデオは、Mike BruceとBlake Westが監督し、Camille LaBryがプロデュースしている映画っぽい作りで、【The Death of You and Me】の続きになっている。
このペテン師みたいな悪魔は、The Darkと言う名前もついていて、俳優のRussell Brandが友情出演しているちょっと豪華な感じ。
Lyraには、この拐われたウェイトレスが、不思議の国のアリスだと思って来たが、久しぶりに見返してみたら、The Darkが「ウェイトレスを探してこい」と命令した2人の姪が双子チックだし、ちょっぴり【Doctor Sleep】(つまり【The Shining】) ぽい気もして来ちゃいました。

どちらも好きな映画であり小説だから、嬉しいし、丁度、ここ数ヶ月Blu-rayを見直して来たドラマと似たアメリカの国道を突っ走る景色が見れてジーンときている。
人生とは何なんだろう？
そう、ますます思えて来た。

Noelは、マンチェスターに程近いロングサイトで、アイルランド人の両親、母Peggy と父Tommy Gallagher トミー・ギャラガー(1945〜)との間に、3兄弟の次男として生まれた（長男Paul 、三男Liam）。
Liamが1972年に生まれた直後に、マンチェスターのバーネイジに移住。
父がアルコール依存症で幼い頃から暴力を受け、長男Paul と次男Noelの2人は、暴力的な父親からの心理的な不安により、吃音癖になったと言う。
母Peggyは、息子たちを案じ、1976年夫との法的な離別権を獲得。その6年後、彼女は3人の子供たちをつれて夫のもとから離れた。
ギャラガー兄弟は、学校への無断欠席の常習者で、しばしば警察の世話になった。
だが母思い出もある彼ら。Noelは、Peggyが学校の食堂で働いていた事もあり、学校の昼食の時間に母のもとに立ち寄っていたという。
13歳の時に、強盗で半年間の保護観察処分を受けるが、この時期に初めて独学でギターを練習し始め、ラジオから聴こえてくるお気に入りの音楽をコピーし始める。
1983年The SmithがTop Of The Popsでパフォーマンスした【This Charming Man】を見て強い影響を受け、「その日から、Jonny Mar になろう、と思うようになったんだ」と語っている。
Oasisデビュー前の話は、皆さんもご存知でしょう。
一応触れておくと、学生時から父親の働いている建築会社で働き始め、その後、Brtish Gasのに下請け工務店に配管工として就職。
就業中に鋼鉄ガスパイプのキャップを右足に落とし負傷。だがこのおかげで、このケガの期間に時間が持てるようになり、ギター練習やソングライティングが出来るようになり、Oasisの楽曲も誕生した。
1980年代後期は長い間失業していたNoelは、ドラッグをやったり、ソングライティング、ギター練習していたが、1988年5月 Stone Roses のギグを見に行った時に、Inspiral Carpetsのギターと知り合いになり、スティーブ・ホルトが脱退した時に、ボーカル・オーディションを受ける。オーディションはダメだったが、彼らのローディーの職を得て2年間務めてる間に来日も経験済み。
1991年24歳の時Oasisに加入し、Oasisは一気にスターダムにのし上がる。

2009年8月28日公式ウェブサイト上でOasis 脱退を表明。
2010年3月25/26日、ロンドン・ロイヤル・アルバート・ホールで、Teenage Cancer Trust主催チャリティーコンサートにて、脱退後初ソロ公演を行なう。
2011年7月7日に記者会見で、この初ソロ・オリジナルアルバム『Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds』リリースを発表し、
2011年10月17日リリースし、翌週よりツアー開始。
2015年3月2日、2ndソロアルバム『Chacing Yestarday』発売。
2017年11月24日、3rdアルバム『Who Built The Moon』リリース(日本は同月22日)。

この【A.K.A.…What a Life!】は、元は、【Ride the Tiger】と呼んでいた曲で、正式には【Ride the Tiger A.K.A.…What a Life!】だった。
が、Noelはしっくりこなくて、タイトルを削り、【A.K.A.…What a Life!】にしたのだ。
だから、歌詞の中には、Ride the Tigerが残っているのだろう。
歌詞から考えると、ミュージックビデオのNoelは、Heroってことだろう、主人公のウェイトレスを救い出したのだから。
Noelが持っていたカメラには、Soulsuckerの文字が書かれていたから、Twin のお姉さんたちの魂を吸いとったんだろうね。
ならばNoelも悪魔か？って気もしなくもないが、ヒーローにしておいた方が、話が上手く行った感じがする。
まあNoelは、無神論者だから、悪魔も天使も信じていないだろうし、この展開は、監督の趣味だと思う。
「信仰はあるけど、神の存在なんて有り得ないだろう？」と言ったり、「ツインタワーに飛行機で突っ込んだヤツらだって神のためだって言ったけど、何を言うかふざけんなって感じだよ」
など、目に見えないものは信じないらしい、、、サンタクロースも大嫌いで娘に「サンタクロースなんていねぇんだよ」と教えたくて仕方なかったらしいから、、、って「Anaisに言わなかったんだな」とLyraは、チラリとNoelの優しさを垣間見た気がする、、、Noelってそう言う奴なんだよね。
Liamは夢みがちなタイプで、兄貴のNoelは現実主義なんだよね。
そのせいか、Oasis時代よりシニカルな歌詞が多い気がするのだが、、、素直に描くようになったのか？
この【A.K.A.…What a Life!】も少し悲観的にも思える。
Lyraらしくポジティブに考えるとしたら、「ヒーローがいるとか、夢みがちになるより、自分を持って生きていかないとな、全く人生って奴は」と、自問自答してる曲かしら？
この少し後ろ向きな歌詞なのに、Vauxhall Motorsは、新しい広告を打ち出すのに、この曲を使ったの。
でもそのお陰で、シングルカットされていなかったこの曲が注目されて、シングル・リリースになったから結果的に良かったんだろう。
ラッキーNoelは、これからも飄々と、我が道を行くのだろう。
「音楽業界なんてヤバイ稼業、でも俺には、これしかないから、危ない道を歩んでる」と言う意味にも取れると思う。
人生なんてどうなるか分からない。
ならば、やるだけやってみよう。
グズグズしてるよりはマシじゃない？

On 1 September 2011, a minute and thirty second preview of “…What a Life!” was released through a sponsorship commercial by Vauxhall on YouTube, which supposedly gave attention to the commercial.
“AKA…What a Life!” is only available for digital download in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Originally the single was to be called “Ride the Tiger” but was changed after a couple of months, due to Noel feeling uncomfortable with the title.

A 36-second teaser was uploaded on the Oasis website on 3 October 2011.
The video takes place straight after the events of The Death of You and Me where The Waitress, after entering the wagon, is greeted by a man known as The Dark (played by Russell Brand, who is a real-life friend of Gallagher) wearing a top hat sitting on a throne flanked with two flaming torches. He says that he can see that she, like most people who have crossed the threshold, has many questions. He then summons his two nieces to restrain the Waitress so he can force feed her a potion. However a vision of Noel appears to teleport the Waitress away to safety.
The Dark then sends his nieces to find the Waitress. The nieces carjack two cowboys and recapture the Waitress and put her in the boot of the car after finding her wandering a desert. The nieces then pick up Noel, who is hitchhiking. Noel then proceeds to film the journey. The trio then stop off at an abandoned swimming pool where it is revealed that the camera Noel is using is a Soulsucker, which makes the nieces fade. Noel then puts the camera in a locked box and puts it in the boot of the car after freeing the Waitress.
The video ends with Noel and the Waitress driving away.
The video is notable for including snippets of a reworked version of The Death Of You And Me, causing speculation that it has been taken from Noel’s second solo album with the Amorphous Androgynous.
This video also appears to finish an apparent 3 video story, starting with “If I Had a Gun” and “The Death of You and Me”, in which we see Noel first as a priest at a wedding, then in the bar “Last Chance” where he pushes The Waitress into a pool of water, in which case is presumed she is being baptized and, as she lands, she looks somewhat like an angel. We see Noel finish the story in a Ford Mustang with the two females mentioned earlier, along with a device that at first looks like an 8mm film camera, but we later see is called the “SoulSucker”. He uses this device to remove the 2 females from the video near the end, who have locked The Waitress in the back of the Ford Mustang. Noel frees her from the car and places the “SoulSucker”, inside a locked wooden case, into the back of the car. On 1 September 2011, Vauxhall Motors released a brand new advertisement to advertise their three-and-a-half year deal sponsorship of the England national football team. Vauxhall had also previewed a minute and a half of Noel’s unreleased track single, “AKA… What a Life!” The commercial includes Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, Jack Wilshere, Ashley Cole, Joe Hart, Darren Bent, James Milner, and Scott Parker alongside football fans of the team and the Vauxhall staff at Wembley Stadium
