最近、この人達の出身地と縁があるような…ないような(笑)。
急速に親しくなった友みたいな感じ。
そのせいか、見に来てくれる人達もこの地方(国)が増えて嬉しいのっ。
まだLyraが小学生の頃、家庭教師の先生が良く海外旅行をする人で、良く旅する度にLyraにお土産を買って来てくれた。
そのお土産で印象的だったのがオーストラリアのもの。
その後も色んな人に、この国のお土産を貰って来たなあ〜。

今日Lyraが和訳＆解説するのは、オーストラリア、バイロンベイ出身のインディーロック・バンド、PLITS。

パンクロックからソウルまで様々なジャンルの音楽に影響された音作りをしていると言うロックバンド である。

PLTS (pronounced “Pilots”), is an indie rock band from Byron Bay, Austrailia. The band formed in October 2012, and punk rock guitar tones, to the alluring vocal timbre of soul – all within the band’s innate knack for writing larger-than-life songs.

インディーロックとして本国で活動しているPLTS。
このサウンドとミュージックビデオを見ていると、モロ、グランジ・ロックを突っ走っていると思った。
刹那い歌詞に、泣きのメロディ。
荒削りのギターがラウドになって行くにつれて、ボーカルのシャウトも生きる全てをなくしたかのようになって行く、、、
ってもう、こりゃLyraの大好物サウンドじゃないの！

2012年から活動しているPLTS。
フロントマンのKit Bray が中心となり結成。
「良い音楽を作り、人々を元気にさせたい」と言う思いでやっているというだけで、Lyra は共感してしまうよ。
物づくりの基本は、それだと思うから。
悲しい気持ちや、どん底にさせてしまう楽曲や芸術は、沢山あるし、そう言うダークなものに惹かれる自分もいる。
より暗いものほど居心地が良かったりするからだ。
でも、それだけでは何もかもが終わってしまうだけだと思う、、個人的な意見だけど。
どん底なものもいいが、出来たらそのドン底を見せたからこそ、生命という大切さを感じさせたら最高だな、と思うからだ。
つまり、ダークサイドや地獄を描いていても希望や天国を表したいと言うことだ。
理想だけどね。
だから、PLITSの結成当初の「人々を元気付けられる曲作りをしたい」と言う想いに賛同してしまうの。
生きていくってそう言うことだと思うから。
どんなに辛くても開けない夜はないと言う希望よ。

【Witout You】は、人間の感情の距離を表したラブソングだ。
文字通りの物理的な距離。
そして感情の隔たりだろう。
ミュージックビデオは、多分、メンバーの小さい頃からのホーム・ビデオじゃないかしら。
家族の思い出。
成長記録。
生きてきた軌跡。
その何気ない日常を描いているから、ラブソングであるのだけれど、恋愛関係の愛情のもつれだけを表してはいないのかも。
人と人は強く結びつく反面、脆い絆だと思う。
それこそ人それぞれだから、一概には言えないが、その人の学んで来たことや、経験値の高さや、育ってきた環境で、人間関係や愛情の重要さって変わると思う。
どれが良くて、どれが悪いなんてない。
捌けるものもいないし、確実なる定義などできないだろう。
結局は、善悪と同じだ。
主観が変われば判断しづらい。
だからこそ、なるべくならば同じ価値観の人間と生きたい。
でないと、同じ熱量では生きていけないからだ。
この【Without You】は、そう言う意味もあると感じた。
好きな人がいなくならないで欲しいと願う歌だ。
だが、それは肉体と肉体が離れてしまうことだけでなく、心と心が離れてしまう事も含まれていると思う。
その隔たりも、合わない人ならばすぐに開くし持続もしない。
それが同じ価値観や考え方ならば、壊れはしない。
どんなに遠くても。
違う国でも、、、ね。
同じ熱量で燃え続ける。
その理想的な姿が、この悲しげな歌詞に見える。
刹那なだけでない希望が見える。
希望的な叫びで。

In 2015 PLTS entered the studio with Sydney producer JP Fung (Last Dinosaurs, Art Vs Science, Josh Pyke) to explore and uncover exciting new elements that would unknowingly push the band to a new stage of development.
With influences from punk through to soul, PLTS’s strengths shine in their musical diversity, backed up by the incredible vocal ability of front-man Kit Bray. Through exploration, PLTS moulded several elements to deliver their 2015 single ‘On & On’. The ever humble four-piece were surprised to see ‘On & On’ become a viral hit on Spotify and land them sold out shows as well as a coveted slot on 2016’s Splendour In The Grass.
In August 2016 the group released their follow up single ‘Astoria’ alongside multiple Australian tours with both The Amity Affliction and Columbus as well as supporting The Jezabels at the Manly Australian Open of Surfing. Thematically, a darker, brooding track, ‘Astoria’ continues on with the band’s high-octane format whilst exposing a dirtier, more intimate side. Partnering again with JP Fung on production duties, Astoria is a captivating showcase of PLTS across catchy melodies and an unforgettable chorus.
Without You is essentially a love song that can be interpreted in different ways. It describes the emotions of change, having something new and exciting pulled away from you and dealing with that new found distance.
The distance could be literal kilometres between each other or just emotional distance.
