ビックリな8月に書いていたまま放置していました😱

好きなアーティストの曲やそうでなくても、聴いて「良い曲ね〜」と気分が上がれば和訳し、UPするのだが、たまに他を優先して出すのを逃してしまう記事がある。

それが100くらいある〜、これでも減らしたの、、、に減らない。

今日の和訳するアーティストは、Lyraの大好きドラマー Travis Barkerのソロワークの一つ、他アーティストとのコラボレーション。

Travisって自他共に認める「ドラムバカ」。

才能もあるドラマーであり、鍛錬も怠らない努力家だから、尊敬してしまう。

その鍛錬の一環が、コラボだが普通のpunkやRock アーティストと違い彼はジャンルを問わないところが好き。

RapもへヴィメタルもレゲェもHip Hopもなんでもござれ〜

でもLyraにはそれが音楽だと思う。あらゆるジャンルや国を飛び越えて分かち合い、楽しむ。

今日Lyraが和訳＆解説するのは、アメリカ合衆国カリフォルニア州フォンタナ出身のドラマー、音楽プロデューサー、ソングライターであるTravis Landon Barker トラヴィス ・ランドン・バーカー (1975年11月14日 – ) 。

人気パンクバンド、blink 182 ブリンク 182の敏腕ドラマーとしてだけでなく、多方面で活躍しているミュージシャンである。

Joseph Edward “Joe” Mulherin (born June 04, 1992), better known by his stage name Nothing,Nowhere (stylized as nothing,nowhere.), is an American musician, singer, rapper, songwriter and producer.

Billboard revealed that Barker has recorded three songs with the rapper.

He said they were in the studio and working on something that was hard to categorize.

“He’s not quite SoundCloud rap but not a straight up band,” Barker said. “He’s pushing the envelope.”

Rapperだから、Hip Hopのノリで来ると思いきや、Emo丸出しのロックサウンドで来たから、初めて聴いた時は驚いてしまった。

歌詞もエモであるし、Emoバンドと言っていいサウンドだ。

Rapperでも、今人気のMachine Gun Kellyや、先日紹介したBlackbear などと似た、RockやPopsとの融合に成功したRap Musicを nothing, Nowhereも目指しているのであろう。

Nothing, Nowhereはリリースする曲のプロデュースは、ヴォーカル、コンポーザーの Joseph Mulherinが行っている、1人何役も熟す職人と言っていい。

バンド形式を取ってはいるが、実質的にはJosephのサウンドである。

だがツアーにも力を入れていて、Real Friends, Tiny Moving Parts, Thrice,La Dispute などとツアーをして来た。

Josephは、マサチューセッツ州で生まれ育ち、夏にはヴァーモント州ハイドパークで過ごして来た。

Igo Elementary School からAhern Middle Schoolへ進学してからXaverian Brothers High Schoolにハイスクール一年生を過ごしたあとに、Foxborough High Schoolに編入し2年になり、ここでコンピューターデザインの基礎を学んだ。

2015年SoundCloudにnothing nowhere 名義で楽曲を上げ始め、6月にデビューアルバム『the nothing,nowhere』をBandcampからリリース。

EPを2枚リリース後　『Bummer, and Who Are You』をオーストラリアのプロデューサー Oilcolorと2017年10月20日にリリース。

売れ線的な意味でのデビューは、 『Reaper』から。

今、紹介している【destruction】のようなギターサウンドをメインとしたEmo RapをReaperで始めた。

New York Timesは、 “one of the most promising pop albums of the year.”「今年リリースされたアルバムで、最も将来有望な1枚」と絶賛した。

その後、 Erik Ron や Jay Veeとアルバムをプロデュース。

【Hopes Up】は、 vocals にDashboard Confessionalのヴォーカルをゲストさせ、”REM” ＂をフィーチャーした曲にデラウェアの　Lil Westをラッパーとして迎えた。

2018年2月16日 Ramen【Ruiner】のミュージックビデオを撮り、リリース。このタイトルをそのままアルバムタイトルにして、2018年4月13日アルバムをリリースした。

2018年10月19日から11月9日までヨーロッパツアー決行。

Josephは、”nothing,nowhere.”以外に、never,foreverとして、TRAU CHOI, & Lil Tofu とコラボ。

never,forever は、小規模バンドといった感じのサイドプロジェクトである。

2つのバンドサウンドをしているのを見て、「もしかしたらJosephの制作意欲が今、ノリに乗っていて曲やアイデアが溢れ出ているのか？」又は、「実験的にやりたいサウンドを試していて、自分の音探しをしているのか？」とLyraは個人的に思った。

因みにTRAU CHOI は、nothing, nowhereと他の仲間アーティストのバンドでもある。

2014年 にデモ、2016年にセルフタイトルの5曲をBandcampに出している。

Lil Tofuの方 は、Soundcloud ラッパーとEmoカルチャーのパロディみたいなサウンドだったらしい。

EmoとRap Musicの融合を何回もトライして来たnothing,nowhere。

その完成形が、この2019年のアルバム『Blood Lust』なのだ。

そして、このTravis Barkerとのコラボレーションしているシングル【destruction】は、その中でもキャッチーで、Emo Rapをよく表したサウンドだと思う。

【destruction】は、Emo Rapの完成形だと言える。

だが、歌詞はEmoのバンドのまんまそれ。

Rapにありがちな、ドラッグ、金、ギャンブル、女の尻や胸の話は、皆無。

かわりにEmo なRock Bandにありがちな、恋愛や友情に悩み、死を意識する主人公の歌詞だ。

そのせいかTeenagerにも人気があるnothing, nowhere 。

心の痛みを表現するEmo Bandそのものだ。

彼がリリースしたアルバム『Ruiner』は、Ramenからのリリースで、このレーベルがPanic! at DiscoやOne ok Rock, Fall Out Boysなどが所属していることからも、nothing,nowhereがどのような立ち位置のバンドであり、期待されているかがわかると思う。

Travisも言っている、「Joe (Josephのこと)と作曲するのが大好きだよ。彼は、色んなジャンルの世界を俺みたいに跨いで生きているんだぜ。それを上手くやっているんだから、最高さ。それって昔からの友達みたいなスケートボードと遊びまわってるみたいな気分だぜ。俺がしたことを全部聞いて、同じ時期に音楽を作るんだ。Joeは3倍の脅威だよ。このEPが良い証拠になるぜ。」

Travisのお墨付きのこのnothing,nowhere。

nothing,nowhereは、Josephが好きな哲学者Alan Wattsの言葉から拝借したバンド名だ。

「自分は何者なのか？そしてどこへ向かおうとしているのか？」

それを考えていくことこそが、人間の根本的なテーマだ。

その答えを見つける旅の途中に、私たちはいるのだと感じる。

それは真剣に自分に向き合うこと。

nothing,nowhereのサウンドへの姿勢が、この名前の全てに表されている。

彼らの真摯な音楽活動に、これからも注目していきたい。

While the music composed by Mulherin is entirely written and produced by Mulherin, he maintains a group of musicians which consist of friends that perform with him for live shows under the nothing, nowhere. name. The band has toured as a supporting act for Real Friends, Tiny Moving Parts, Thrice and La Dispute on multiple tours.

Barker is one of the most prolific drummers in modern music. Beyond Blink-182 and the Transplants, the musician has made music with Slash, Yelawolf, Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Wayne and plenty of other massive artists. Likewise, nothing,nowhere has integrated himself in rock and roll culture, touring with Thrice and recording “hopes up” with Dashboard Confessional.

Joseph said “Travis has been a huge influence on me my whole life. He is the reason I became interested in tattoos at a young age and was also one of the main reasons I decided to start learning how to play instruments,” nothing, nowhere said about the project. “Working with him was some of the most fun I’ve had making music. it was just an organic process, it reminded me of hanging at a friend’s house when I was younger and just creating to create.”

Barker also made a comment about his love for the artist and collaboration.

“I love making music with Joe,” he said. “He lives in a universe between genres like myself and does it so well. It’s like hanging out with an old friend that skates, listens to everything I do, and we just happen to be making music at the same time. Joe’s a triple threat, this EP showcases that.”
